Always optimistic, but I've been waiting for Arsenal or Chelsea to slip up for what seems like an eternity. And they never do. We must do our job and get two wins. Will that be good enough ? Will Newcastle get something from Arsenal ? Surely there must come a time when it will go our way for once...

Relying on Chelsea losing and drawing their last two games was never realistic. They have some exceptional match winners and we were only going to stand a chance of finishing ahead of them by beating them on Wednesday.

On the other hand, hoping that Arsenal draw one of their last two games is much more realistic.

We have to do our job though. It makes no difference what happens elsewhere if we don't win our last two.

Tomorrow's game is massive. If we win we put incredible pressure on them going into a tricky game against an unpredictable side.

I still think they will draw at Newcastle on the last day of the season. Whether that'll be enough is in our hands.

Have you guys seen Wigan and Newcastle's defending; as people pointed out the fixture list will fuck us in terms of these games.

I had more hope in catching Chelsea tbh, messed up big time.

I agree the fixtures have been kind to our rivals, but I cant help thinking how would we be feeling in their position. Im sure we would be bricking because we would be playing low ranking teams, and im sure that we would have struggled to get wins.

Still hope there is more drama at the scum on Tuesday. All depends on which Wigan turn up. If the wigan that played us turn up, then we are in with a shout. I the wigan that lost to Swansea turn up, then good night Vienna.

Newcastle have Coloccini back now though. He was excellent before his injury, could make a big difference.

Ah well,

We thought after we draw it would be between us and Arsenal and that's how it is

We simply must beat Stoke tomorrow and put the pressure on them for Tuesday

As long as we win we go in to the final weekend with a chance

Sometimes I get confused by the rules of the game: Can someone explain to me why John Terry was given a yellow card and not a red?

I can't comment on whether he should have been given a second yellow as my stream went down...but the Villa fans sounded pretty incensed and the commentators said he did put his hand in a Villa player's face.

He should of got a straight red, the second yellow villa fans where on about was not a yellow as much as I would have liked to see him go. Villa had there chance at 11 v 10 but couldn't take it, hoping for a 10 v 9 was a 1 wish to many.

:) I was being ironickalistic :eek::eek::eek:
Villa player was through on goal, it would have been a definite goal scoring opportunity, and none of the other Chelsea players would have got near him = straight red card. To make matters worse, not that the ref could use my view and opinion on this, but you could tell from Terry's face and the fact that he didn't even try and argue the toss, that it was deliberate and, therefore, a professional foul.

Yeah, Villa should have killed it at 1 - and eleven against ten, but Chelsea should have been down to nine, and Benteke wouldn't have fouled Terry* to be sent off if the ref had done his job properly. On what fecked up de plane boss, de plane, fecking planet was that not a straight red card! SP @ officials helping turn another important game in our rivals' favour.com

* Twas fun, however, watching Terry rolling around in agony, a view seemingly shared by the entire Villa crowd.

To take a different tack - our results haven't been bad, just our rivals have been better, but I can assure any of you who hasn't seen the Goons games, there form (as opposed to results) most definitely is not better than ours. If we have looked stuttering, nervous and, at times, clueless, they have been luckier and had some major decisions grossly in their favour.

Very frustrating, incredibly so in fact. There is no way Chelsea would of won that had Benteke still been on.

Lets put things in perspective though, Arsenal were always the real competition here. I firmly believe Chelsea would of beaten Everton at home anyway - a good 80% plus chance of doing so anyway. Had they dropped points today it would of been nice to increase our odds slightly but it really isn't as big as a disaster that some are making out.

Arsenal's game at Newcastle is still the key game here - providing we do our business. Lets hope Newcastle will need to get something from the game knowing their fate is still undecided before kick off.

I must say though it does feel like all these other variables are conspiring against us but that's what happens when you find yourselves relying on others.

As long as we win tomorrow we put the pressure back on Arsenal. I don't expect Wigan to get anything on Tuesday so there's no point in getting all hopeful and then venting on here when they win 3 or 4 nil. Its going to the last day and Newcastle are the only realistic hope we have. Lets hope they still need something from the game, because if they do Arsenal are in for a very tough game.

He was given a yellow because the ref thought Cole was covering the run and preventing it from being an outright goal scoring chance

The commentators seemed to agree with this judgement too

Newcastle play QPR tomorrow, with a point giving them safety (should Arsenal beat Wigan)

I hope QPR get at least a draw off Newcastle and Wigan still have them in their sights before they play Arsenal

I just want it to go to the last day. I am not expecting Arsenal to drop points at home to Wigan, However I am expecting them to drop some at Newcastle.

I'm with you Pinky. I had written off any chance of getting in over Chelsea ages ago, even before the draw. They were always in the driving seat.

You mentioned about relying on Newcastle and their game against Arsenal being the key game. I think Wigan's game on Tuesday is more of a key game. Providing Newcastle win tomorrow, which I have a horrible feeling that they will, a loss or draw for Wigan will mean Newcastle don't need anything of Arsenal. Wigan, regardless of Newcastle's result tomorrow, will have to go all for broke against Arsenal to keep any hope of survival alive.

Regarding the bit I put in bold - yes, it does feel that way. But we've had plenty of shit results we should've done better with to avoid this situation so we've only got ourselves to blame. We've done very well regardless, and it'll be a fucking kick in the teeth if we finish with our highest ever points tally of 72, yet still end up 5th. :shifty:

I know what you mean. Still think a Newcastle, even if safe, have a better chance than a gung ho Wigan who are likely to be ripped apart. Yes they managed it last year but that was a once in a lifetime performance from Wigan, they also defended extremely well that night - and therein lies the problem, that's why they are where they are. If they could defend they would be a top half side in this League, probably competing for a Europa League spot.

They just can't defend with any sort of consistency despite playing some lovely stuff. I personally think Arsenal will batter them. My hope is they go to Newcastle and its a big atmosphere - more likely to feel the pressure there. Even if Newcastle are safe Pardew is under intense pressure at the moment and there is no way he'll want to lose their last home game when even his own future could be in doubt.
