What's a couple or six thousand immigrant workers when you know this World Cup will be the best one ever. They even put in speakers to enhance the audiences clapping to make it more vibrant and enjoyable. Surely there will be no protests as Qatar is a open and freely country and the women will of course not be put in own "female only" sections of the stadium.

But in all seriousness; it's ten years too late to do anything about this shit show. It will go down as one of the most disgusting World Cups in history and we will all watch

Feel like any nation or player that goes to this World Cup will be tainted by it for the rest of their lives. Like the England football team giving the nazi salute in 1938.
I wish this were true.

People don't care enough for it to be true, if they had the tournament would've been taken away from them five years ago.

Agree. It's disgusting but despite all the big talk from fans, when push comes to shove the overwhelming majority will still watch it on TV even if fewer people a really go to the tournament.

When all the truth started coming out about the bribes and when it became apparent that they'd have to reschedule it to be played in the winter, the bigger nation's should've boycotted it on the grounds that it was completely unsuitable as a host and would disrupt their domestic leagues too much. That would've forced FIFA's hand. The WC would not have gone ahead if even 5 or 6 of the biggest/richest nations had said they weren't going. It would cost FIFA more to lose those nationals than it would to move the tournament but as they all instead just turned a blind eye, absolutely fuck all will happen to stop it.

I've watched every World Cup final since 1962 (yes, I am that old!) and was even lucky enough to attend the 1966 final. This is the first one I will avoid, having witnessed at first hand how it was "awarded."

I think people would care, but the slave labour is barely reported on in the press. People cared enough in the 70s and 80s to demand a boycott of South Africa over apartheld etc.

The World Cup will go ahead, none of this will be mentioned by the people covering it.

It doesn’t mean those involved won’t be tainted by it.

We were ripped off. Only Beckebauer actually voted for us. We wouldn't bribe! And yet what a world cup it could have been.

I watched Gary neville’s documentary on Amazon Prime about this. Worth a watch. You can see at numerous times he is disgusted at what he comes across.

I mean, it obviously beats Qatar! But I guess the big issue is the timezones which would probably have a major impact on global viewing figures - huge numbers in Europe and Africa where e.g. even a late 6pm kickoff locally is at 7am, or in the Americas where that kickoff would be between midnight and 2am.

Might have to watch that. One thing Gary Neville does very well is disgust.

It's crazy how obvious it was to give it to England. Class stadiums all around the country, one of the biggest football fanbases and timezones that suit everywhere else.

There's going to be a documentaries about this in years to come when all of those guilty are long dead and free from punishment.

Have to wonder what Bayern fans are thinking? An old jewish club, where many fans, players and staff, not to mention the chairman were imprisoned, murdered or pressed into slavery. Now they themselves are supporting the murder of thousands of slaves, spitting on the memory of those brave Bavarians who opposed Hitler.

Yet we have been awarded the women's world cup for 2023, and are the preferred host for the 2032 Olympics. Lets also not forget the World cup has been held in Japan/Korea which is similar in time.
I just hate the corruption involved in FIFA and especially this one.

I'm certainly not against the UK holding it. You are spot on.

I was living in Qatar at the time it was awarded and I was being told Qatar had it in the bag months before the vote. Everyone out there knew.

The whole thing was crazy: unearth all this corruption and bribes and payments to host a world cup, remove all these FIFA heads that made money from the bribes...

But still let the perpetrators/beneficiaries host the thing... hell don't even speak of taking from them.:cautious:

It's almost as though more people still involved with FIFA would have lost something had they moved it from Qatar...

Sad as it is and as disgusted i was/am that they got the tournament, i just know that when it rolls around i will watch it. :(
