So since March, Southampton have 1 win, 2 draws and 10 losses.

I have a funny feeling Hassenhuttl will probably be gone very shortly.
They certainly have not backed him. They have signed all youth and almost feels like they wouldn’t mind taking those parachute payments and let these kids they signed develop a year or two there.

Villa being shit is so predictable. Themselves and Everton are cut from the same cloth, two pretty big clubs (maybe 7 and 8th biggest in the league) who have prioritised flashy spending as a means to climb the table over strategic recruitment and clever management. Coutinho classic example. Diego Carlos too, he's shit but the narrative when they signed him was 'he rejected UCL clubs to come here, got UEL experience with Sevilla'. Gerrard and Lampard are both poor coaches, neither have been able to implement impressive presses or build up structure. Expect both will be sacked by the World Cup.
Yeah, I totally agree on Villa.

We've seen this story a thousand times. Sign a bunch of players who look very good in other leagues and bring them all into the PL where they need to gel and adapt to the league at the same time.

In fact, we did this in 2013 with the Bale money. Not a single PL player signed, just a most mash of potential thrown in together and expected to become a success. The strategy is far too flawed.

I was certainly expecting much more from Gerrard as people said his Rangers team were very well drilled, yet his Villa team look a bit all over the place.

A lot of pundits are picking them for relegation.

If SCBC get a bad injury to Ward-Prowse they’re doomed imo. Had a good look at their post-match comments on SaintsWeb and the fans are thoroughly depressed. Those fans who are still pro-Hassenhuttl are saying they’ll want him out if they don’t beat Leeds next week.

Terrific atmosphere at Elland Road yesterday. So glad they stayed up and Burnley went down.

From watching MOTD it looks like Newcastle away has gone back to being a hard game. If they play like that every week then they will be a handful. Lots of energy.

Well, if it is true that they like the look of Ndombele and want to sign him then I hope they keep up the flash spending!

There was a lot of talk that the brains behind Gerrards success at Rangers, at least tactically, was his assistant manager, Beale, who left this summer to manage QPR. Wonder if we'll see that have an impact this summer? Regardless of that, it's been over 6 months and he still hasn't settled on a system or a best 11 - feels like he's making it up as he goes along atm.

I think their signings have been a lot more sensible than Everton's, though. Think Carlos, Kamara, Digne and a fit Bailey could be decent. Dread to think the wages they're paying some of these players to persuade them to come, though.

His new assistant is Neil Critchley who has also coached Liverpool youth and more recently managed Blackpool up from League 1 to the Championship. He left Blackpool to become Gerrard's assistant.

In terms of replacing Beale he's probably among the best they could've gone for.

Had a look on the Villa forum and it looks like they have had enough of Gerrard already.

He's snappy at the journalists, dire football, alienated senior pros, apparently has put strict rules in place. Apparently he can't coach either, so he's more of an old school manager / face / voice to the camera.

I wonder how long he gets. He has spent decent money there.

Aston Villa have won two of their last twelve premier league games. Both games were against teams that are no longer in the premier league.
Aston Villa's win against Leicester at the start of December 2021 is the last time they beat a team that finished higher than 15th in last year's premier league table.
Steven Gerrard is a fraud and should never have gotten the job.

He suffers from the same problems as Lampard does, he’s mostly in his job on reputation alone. He did pretty well at Rangers, but that’s a different kettle of fish than managing in the premier league.

I thought Ward-Prowse was as bad as anyone else for them yesterday. He didn’t try to get on the ball and hid quite often. I think they’re entitled to expect more from him.

I was really surprised when Gerrard took the Villa job as it seemed too much too soon and the Rangers job was giving him experience of managing in European competition. I’m yet to see anything from his Villa team to suggest he was/is ready for a EPL job.

I feel sorry for Hassenhutl. I think he’s actually a really decent coach. They’ve got no goals in them after losing Broja though which will probably cost them.

It wasn't long ago that people had convinced themselves he would be good for us....

I find Villa a really weird side. Doesn't seem like they have much of a style, just patches of generally inconsistent ability around certain areas of the pitch.

At that time I would have preferred him over Nuno. Not sure if he would have done a worse job here, but it’s certainly possible!

Be interesting to see how Brighton do now that they've lost their two best players in cucurella and bissouma
