Clubs affected by his turning out for his club whilst under the threat of suspension should sue the FA/PL. The delay in suspending him is just plain wrong.

I think it's a bigger problem that he's suspended for the last games of this season, it should have started after the season ended.

My issue is his suspension runs over the summer when no football is played. Wouldn't it have been better to have the suspension start from the start of next season?

Where does this stand in terms of bans in PL history? Second only to Cantona?

Also, does Brentford have to pay him full wages when it comes to a ban this size due to improper actions outside the football field?

It would, but then Brentford would take legal action.

My guess is they were targeting 20 game suspension - or they're about. So the 8 months took into account the summer break.

What is interesting is the suspension from football activities - which means Toney can't train with a team until January 16. Even assuming he stays physically fit, it will still take him 2-3 weeks to get up to match fitness - so really the suspension will run a little longer.

8 months seems a massively over the top punishment unless there is evidence that he bet on games he was personally involved in.

But had they made the verdict in say February and said it was until the end of the season I'd be more on board. Taking this long for the verdict feels ridiculous.

Imagine how many points he could have helped Brentford gain. Shouldn't take that long to come to a verdict and his ban should have been mch much much earlier.

Then now the ban started with a significant period crossed into preseason. Everything is just so wrong.

He can train from the middle of September according to a bbc article.

Particularly as he didn't seem to be contesting many of the charges.
I would imagine his and Brentford's lawyers were all over it and if the fa did not dot every i and cross every t they would have cried foul and got off with a technicality. Way of the world unfortunately. I think he is lucky to not get longer. 256 bets on footy games isn't a slip up its blatant disregard. He will appeal and get it reduced. All part of the game.

Can Brentford refuse to pay him during the ban? I suspect they’d be tempted to try.

I wonder if he appeals and try and get it reduced.
