Last season had seen us bringing in Kieran Trippier as a backup to Kyle Walker for the right back position. We were able to bring him in at a relatively cheap price, which can be partly attributed to the relegation of Burnley. His performance this season is solid as a backup to Kyle Walker. Now, looking at the relegated teams, are there any potential signings that can be next season's Trippier or even one that is better?

Let's start with Aston Villa, the most dreadful team this season. They are awful in almost all their games, having the need to see three different faces on their managerial seat in one season. However, on an individual level, are there any gems for us to tap on?

Potential signings: Jack Grealish, Jordan Ayew, Irissa Gueye

Norwich City's season is definitely less disastrous. However, their team offer so little to the league that some even question the meaning of their existence.

Potential signings: Nathan Redmond

Newcastle United. God god, Newcastle United. One of the biggest spenders in the winter window, yet suffered the most in terms of point tally. Their squad is undeniably more talented than some of the other teams such as Sunderland. There was a mass exodus in 2009 when they faced relegation, with Owen, Bassong, Martins etc. leaving the club for greener pastures. Unfortunately, it would be a similar situation this time around

Potential signing: Ayoza Perez, Gini Wijnaldum, Moussa Sissoko, Tim Crul

What do you guys think? Will we sign any of the abovementioned players? Or are there others that could fit us even more?

Pretty sure no one dreaded playing Villa...

I'd take Perez or Wijnaldum as a backup.

The same Wijnaldum who's shown no balls/character/work rate, contributing to Newcastle rubbishness this season?
I think he has been a bit overrated but I think he has gone missing under rafa rather than no turning up. I don't think he wanted to be there after Steve leaving

I agree, though, I would take no one

If I were in charge of a club in the Prem, I might be interested in Grealish if I could trust him to straighten out his life off the field, something he has yet to do. Of course, that doesn't necessarily mean he'd be a good fit for Poch's Spurs team, even if he could be trusted to clean his act up. Generally speaking, I'd give this year's group of relegated players a miss.

Come on guys, seriously? We've got CL football and can do better than buying players from relegated teams- especially from the teams this season. The teams that have been relegated this season are mostly (well...completely for Newcastle and Villa) in this position because of a lack of work rate, desire and passion- all qualities our playes need to have. They all have good players and arguably only Norwich have a team on paper that maybe 'should' have been relegated. We shouldn't touch these players with a bargepole.

However, if a team went down fighting, with a exceptional work-rate all season- e.g. Burnley last season, then perhaps we should be looking at them (as we did with Ings and Trippier). This season that hasn't been the case. If Bournemouth got relegated, for example, then they would be a team we could potentially sign from, as they, like Burnley, have worked very hard all season.

Lascelles is the only one for me.

Loved him when we were linked to him at Forest, and has actually play very well since he's started at Newcastle, coinciding with a dramatic upturn in their form.

Big, strong, calm, and with decent technical ability, I reckon he'd fit in really well if we were on the lookout for a young English back-up CB this summer tbh.

I can see why people would be interested in him as a potential signing- but what would be the point in buying another young CB (who isn't an exceptional young talent) when we have Carter-Vickers, who has played international U23 football. Just makes no sense.

It's a team effort. If the whole team don't give any effort then one individual won't just try by himself.

At the end of the day, some players need a change and he has proven he can score in the PL. The whole Newcastle team underachieved and underperformed.

Also he is a versatile player. Would come in handy for sure.

Lascelles looks very good and if we can have a choice of Alderweireld, Vertonghen, Lascelles and Dier as our centre backs next season we'd be set.

The relegated sides have shown a very poor attitude this season but this does not mean we should write off every player on their attitude, they might thrive in a better attitude.

Redmond has a lot of ability but I believe he falls a little short of our needed quality level. Wijnaldum is talented but not seen much desire from him.

Ayew is the only player out of the bottom clubs to impress me, even then his brother at Swansea looks the better player.

We need top top quality going into the CL and I don't see any player from those clubs that looks the real deal.
