Fair point mate, but he was being asked about attack, so that will be why his quotes are on that. I think getting Toby in and hopefully a CDM will help.

But in the meantime, this makes me happy:

“This season we can play in two different options, two different systems,”

so 4231 which basically turns into 442 with the AM moving to support the FWD? Why only two systems though?

I saw Chadli infield a lot when we had the ball against Stoke. And he seems to do ok up there, has the physicality to do it on his own. But Lamela? No way. Njie? Doubt it.

If we did sign Bera I think Kane would drop deeper more often. Two Teddy type passes for Mason and Davies last time out help show how Kane can bring real variety to our attack.

When Kane is rested I'd be a bit concerned about Bera leading the line, so could imagine Chadli again playing more centrally. Shame he has a tendency not to turn up in the big games away from home.

Seem Poch read my formation thread - I think we'll move to 4-4-2 diamond. I am in favour of this, think it makes best use of our squad

I'd like a 4411 berahino and njie blipping down the wings swapping positions (like under harry). Might actually have some exciting games again. None of this tippy tappy passing backwards crap.

Because in the words of the great H. Players are dumb. Anything more than run around a bit and their brain hurts. Two systems is like a PhD

I think the main problem with formations is that we are trying to play far too fluid. Like the aim is to wipe out all preconstructed lines between various formations, and mix a salad bowl of a bit of this and a bit of that. We are almost never playing in one extremely clean cut formation, but the one we are the closest to is 4231, and that proximity I don't think will change anytime soon.

But Berahino is not a winger, so not sure he'd be any good at beating a full back and putting a cross in. Surely if we sign him we're signing him to play upfront.

He played both right and left wings last season. Ok he might not hug the line but he doesn't need to.

I can't believe a word of this article ;), as Poch is quoted as saying we "play very attractive football" I think he must have been watching matches from the archives! We have not played attractive or exciting football since Harry left. AVB brought us boring football, Tim was a bit up and down, Poch has so far been pretty rigid in his formation which hasn't offered us exciting football. If he learns what positions our players are best in, then maybe he can work out a formation that works in giving us exciting football and winning results.

He's been with us for two seasons. Scored at the scum last season, give you that. Soton? Give over. Missed anyone else?

Did he play in the final? I honestly can't remember....

I'd like to see this team eventually if we signed Berahino:

...........Berahino..........Kane..........Clinton

..........................Alli.............Eriksen

...................................Dier

Rose...........Wimmer...........Alderweireld............Trippier

...................................Lloris

The game against Stoke we played a 4312 with Eriksen behind Kane and Chadli so it's quite different
