he should be playing. he's lost a step but still a solid and reliable defender.

Even if he's lost a step he was always twice the defender Dier was and far less mistake prone and more composed than Sanchez. A weaker Toby is still a better option than what we currently have.

Also probably second best passer in the team and his long balls fit Jose's tactics perfectly. Maybe Toby tried to play a role of a senior player and complained about Jose or got insulted for being dropped once, anyway they hate each other and Jose isn't playing him because he thinks other CBs are better, it's personal. Toxicity just started leaking a bit sooner than expected.

If Dier and sanchez start the final we are in trouble. But will a not 100% motivated Alderweireld be that much better. Has to be surely?

I think winning the Cup final will be motivation enough. It is the 'nothing' games where players sometimes need the manager to provide extra motivation. I would like to think so anyway.

Why is Toby past him prime may i ask, because of his age?

Compare him to the 2015/16 version where he was the best defender in the league - he doesn't anticipate as well as much and he has lost a yard of pace - he is still good though but he has fallen off massively.

I think its relative and the issue I have with most when they are discussing Toby. Like you said I think he was the best CB in the league and a top probably 5-8 CB in the world. He's now probably the 6th best CB in the prem and everyone acts like he sucks. (I put behind Van Dijk, Stones, Dias, Laporte, Silva)

His long range passing is very instrumental in our ability to vary our attacks. I think he has another year in him and would like us to add Andersen next season to step in and eventually take over that Toby role.

For what we could fetch for him in the market, Toby is certainly dependable enough to be a squad centre back for us next season (and potentially beyond). Dier and Sanchez are the two I’d like to see shipped off this summer.

Agreed. I would let Dier and Sanchez go and then sign both Andersen and Tarkowski and let Tanganga go out on loan for a season. We would then be left with Toby, Rodon, Andersen, Tarkowski for a season and then if Toby leaves the following season, re-integrate Tanganga in his place.

Been class last few games, how Jose dropped him I never will understand
I would assume something with attitude? Poch also froze out Alder at the end, We get a boost with new manager, but in the end, Levy which spends so much time in the canteen, needs to figure out the sour apples and sell them, even if it is at a loss, because they overall make for a bad enviroment (not saying this is Alder alone, although you need to wonder why 2 managers now have benched him after a while in charge)

I think he's had a pretty solid season.

It'll be interesting to see if he's a starter next term.

At 32 he's no spring-chicken, but he's also not on the verge of retirement, or anything like that.

Pairing him with a young, quick, CB and his experience could be invaluable in 21/22.

Although against Wolves, he played them onside by stepping back, and then lost his player, who had a free header, that he thankfully fluffed. He does need a pacey partner. I’ve seen milk turn faster than Dier.

Im hopeful for a fresh pair at the back. There are quite a few HG strong centre backs in the prem atm.
