I’m watching the Manchester derby tonight and walker and wan bissaka are so far ahead of him in ability it’s scary. How did we get ourselves into this position with Aurier.

Instead of paying 25 mill for Perreira which seemed expensive we decided to spend that on Aurier which was perceived as a discount price because Levy much like my mum can't resist a discount even if they didn't actually want that item in the first place. We then sold Trippier which has faced some revisionism recently and was the right decision but we forgot the part where we were meant to get a replacement and so instead of also selling Aurier he's now untouchable in our 11 seemingly as Jose doesn't trust any of the alternatives.

the abuse this man receives is up there with the most underserving of any of our players.
It has reached a point where I think it's actually ridiculous and makes me question some of the footballing brains in here.
He has been one of our best players under Mourinho

Totally agree and people saying oh Sissoko has to baby sit for him at right back - thats because Aurier is being asked to bomb forward.

Bomb forward!!

He's already forward. Jose is trying to play him up as far as is humanly possible, knowing he can do less damage to us defensively

I’ve said many times that Serge has everything, pace, power and huge ability. The problem is he is a liability over 90mins. Unfortunately he cannot be trusted. Positionally he’s all over the shop at certain times. He runs when he should jog and he jogs when he should run

Switches off, doesn’t track runners. Jose has seen all of this now

As soon as Jose is able to replace him, he will. If he’s still the man I have no doubt about this!

Problem is Levy/ENIC may have other ideas

He isnt perfect and can be liable for fuck ups but he isnt as bad as people make out. My preference would be to replace him but i find some of the criticisms very harsh.

Honestly he is a dreadful player and one of the reasons the defence is struggling so much. He has no awareness of danger you never see him coming over on the cover which is basic for full back and he has the footballing brain of a mouse,

I have rarely seen a full back with so little awareness of what is happening around him people used to complain about Walker having no brain but his instincts were defensive heaven knows what Aurier's are he reacts to incidents after they have happened just doesn't read the game at all

If he has been one of our best players then that explains a lot

the goals we have leaked about been from our 'trusty' and 'world class' CB pairing but keep telling yourself Aurier is our biggest issue

You need to defend as a side Aurier offers next to nothing defensively the problems are not solely down to the centre backs they are getting exposed by no pressure on the ball in midfield the back four drops deeper the full backs provide no cover which Aurier is devoid off and so and so on, The back 4 needs to play as a unit when times are tough and Aurier's lack of awareness and no football brain make that virtually impossible.

The other week are 1 up going into half time what does Aurier do pursues the ball into the opposition with no other player near him leaving a gaping hole down the right hand side - just hold what you have no brain at aill

CBs are there to defend right? What is all this talk about CBs frequently being exposed? Are they meant to be wrapped up in cotton? Yes, a DM helps provide extra MF defensive cover but CBs still have to defend. That’s what’s written on the tin.

Anyway Aurier doesn’t help at times due to his poor positioning and tendency to switch off at times but I would hardly say he is contributing to all the errors in central defence.

Real difference with Aurier is his personality - he's quite similar to Adebayor in that he has a strong personality and is quite expressive. Danny and Kyle were always been quiet and softly spoken, which I think kept them out of the firing line a bit more.

Danny has been the farthest from quiet!

There wasn't a huge amount of difference. For the most part, Rose and Aurier have some commonality in that they both play/played like reluctant defenders and are more enthusiastic going forwards.

Walker was better in defence, but there was a good reason why we (and also City) refer to him sometimes as Brainfart.

Interesting fact is that Aurier already has more goals for us than Walker. I'm pretty sure his goals/assists per 90 are far higher. I generally think that if he'd have been with us from a younger age then people would give him more slack.

May I know which planet you are currently residing on, kind sir?

He does this every game too.

Fortunately with sissoko out we will have to change systems against Liverpool and he won’t be able to push forward. Trouble is, that means he’s closer to our penalty area and will give away a penalty or free kick in a dangerous area or get sent off. What’s the betting he does at least one of those against Liverpool on Saturday or all three. Especially as he’s up against Mane. I’d be tempted to play Foyth at right back against them and I’m not convinced about him at all either.

Its the bloody great hole in the centre of the pitch thats the problem as we've no defensive midfield players.
You can have the best centerbacks in the world but if teams can get at them freely, as they do with sissoko and Winks pairing, then you'll get roasted every game.
While Verts and Toby may not be at the same level they were, and our fb's are not what they once were either, they are still top quality players and wouldnt be conceding as we are if the midfield was right.
Add to that we've our 2nd string keeper backing them up and its the perfect storm.
We need a dm badly and Lloris back, who btw imo will be twice the keeper he was under JM as he wont be asked to fk about tippy tappying around his own goal area.
Sidenote, Zaha is not the answer either.
