He was out of position so many times. Kept on popping up in midfield and jogging back into position. Not for me I’m afraid.

He had some good moments, but when he loses it or is out of position, he’s not busting a gut to get back and recover. We need an upgrade at RB, LB (if Sess isn’t quite there yet), and a tall strong athletic DM.. So many times tonight we were losing the second ball in the middle of the park. No strength there whatsoever.

That is the upside of being as bad as Aurier - when he doesn't cost us a goal he is praised.

Watch the van Dijk header again. Never seen anyone so inept at defending as Aurier. It is like he doesn't understand he is on a football pitch at times.

Has to he said Sanchez wasn't much better in that specific situation.

People saying he's out of position need to understand that Jose has asked him to play more as a winger and not a traditional RB.. What is inexcusable is losing the ball and then make ZERO effort to chase it down or get back. Should be fined for that.

Van Dijk would have been offside...

Didn't get to watch much of the game on Saturday so watching the extended highlights... 2 minutes in when Tanganga deflects Firmino's shot and Firmino has the ball in the box... Aurier is standing completely still having no idea there are 2 men goal side within 5 feet of him.

His inability to have any idea whats around him consistently is mind blowing. Throughout this entire sequence, he never moves in any direction.

I think you go through the entire 90 minutes we can find similar situations with other players.

So that means it is OK?

Obviously every single defender around will occasionally end up marking no-one, but very few are as bad as Aurier. Sanchez got the same tendency. Whenever you are lost in the box at least find someone.

The best defenders will "sense" which space is the most important to defend. Aurier goes blank.

It just annoys the hell out of me that there can be a counter attack where the opponent is 4 v 3, and he'll just jog back even though he's the closest one to the situation.
