I don’t think it was a penalty. If anything, it was a foul on Aurier.

Mane is one of the biggest cheats in football and he has a reputation of conning us going back to his Southampton days.

He’s clever and he knows exactly how to buy penalties. Even in the CL final he intentionally kicks the ball into Sissoko’s armpit. If you think that’s a stretch, watch it back (if you can stomach it), Mane looks up then kicks the ball straight at Sissoko, had Sissoko not been there, the ball would’ve gone backwards towards the half way line.

Anyway, back to today... Watch it back. Mane hangs his leg between the ball and Aurier’s outstretched leg, he knows Aurier is going to follow through on him. I guarantee you, had Aurier gone down clutching his ankle, it’s a free kick to us. You see that kind of foul all the time, attackers trying to block defenders from clearing it and following through on them, and every single time it’s a free kick to the defender.

It was Mane’s reaction, the Anfield crowd and an inept referee who bought that penalty.

Aurier did nothing wrong.
‘Footballers’ spend their lives looking for these opportunities. It’s pure ‘gamesmanship’ from Mane. He played Aurier and got his penalty. It’s a foul in the laws of the game but Aurier has been mugged. The main problem here is Mane probably knew Aurier was easy prey.

Liverpool are masters of the manufactured goal.

Watch from 2:30 on here, you can slow it down to see what really happens.

Aurier even stops when he feels Mane's leg but Mane has already initiated the con by this point and is ready to drop like a stone. The way he falls makes it look like he has ball possession as well. As far as cheating goes it’s one of the best I’ve seen.

Shouldnt have just run into him. He knows the score. Players not learning.

He’s a complete liability and a clown of a player. Every time Liverpool got the ball on his side, my heart was in my mouth because I just knew it wouldn’t be long before Aurier cost us somehow. Either getting himself sent off or conceding a penalty. The guy fucks up far to often to be a coincidence. Please just get rid of this clown, he’s the worse Right back in the league.

This is not different to the penalty Lamela won 2 years ago up there. The attacker beat the defender to the ball and the defender clumsily booted him, attacker goes down on contact. It was a nailed on penalty and we would have been livid if the other way around and not given. Let's focus on things that were very wrong ... like Eriksen's selection and performance, and Poch's stubborn 'Plan A' no 'Plan B' approach.

Nonsense. The problem today was coming down our left side. Continious attacks as they saw Rose as a weak link.

Both flanks were a problem. We have dodgy fullbacks plus Son and Eriksen were all over the shop defensively.

But Liverpool fans said Lamela’s one wasn’t a penalty. There seems to be little bit of a contradiction going on here but I can’t quite put my finger on it...

It's the way the game has been allowed to evolve. Fans have supported the cheating and play acting because they'll get a few soft decisions themselves. All this shite about 'there was contact so it's a penalty'. Horse shit! Contact does not equal a foul - at least, not in my opinion. I'd like to go back to a time when there had to be some intent for a foul to be given - not accidentally touching a players toe, resulting in a triple somersault and 20 minutes treatment from the physio. I even deplore it when our players do it.

Exactly my point.

Like I said, we see situations like that in nearly every game. Defenders are constantly fouled when they're attempting to clear the ball up the pitch, the attacker sticks a leg out and follows through on the defender. In that situation it is ALWAYS a foul for the defender and Aurier's one should've been no different.

Aurier is in possession, the ball is moving away from goal anyway, and Mane sticks his leg in to initiate contact. it was Mane's reaction and Aurier's lack of reaction to being (technically) fouled that bought the penalty. The ref was desperate to give Liverpool the game anyway.

Mane is a cheat. Plain and simple. But because people post viral videos of him mopping floors and doing what us poor humans do every day, he's some kind of saint.

For me Mane was clever, in a way it's cheating because Mane did not attempt to get the ball his sol purpose was to dangle his leg to be kicked.

Mane won the penalty but it was a penalty nevertheless. It was no different to Lamela when he placed his body between the player and ball, getting kicked in the process and winning us a penalty at Anfield. Aurier sprawling around on the ground never ends well.

Barring the penalty Aurier had a reasonable game, it is however often fatal to make such mistakes as kicking a player in the box. Rose on the other hand was atrocious at both ends of the pitch.

It was a pen in todays classification , Aurier was playing well up to that point yet another mistake does he learn can he learn?

About 5 minutes before the penalty the wife walks into the room with an eye on the game. Within about a minute Aurier has made 3 mistakes/lunges and I’m expecting to have to answer her saying he’s he’s a liability. She says nothing but I’m thinking it anyway. Then the penalty happens.

I said it on here a few years ago - Mane suicides himself/throes himself under the bus/call it what you like and he gets the penalty/FK almost every time. He is very good at it.

Now that Aurier is getting a run at right back, and everyone is coming to realise how shite he is, I feel like many people need to start apologising for criticising Trippier so much.

Trippier is a flawed player but he is ten times better than Aurier.

Why. Trippier was dreadful. Aurier is also dreadful.
