I get the Lo Celso ire as around 60m is ultimately a reasonable price with the 20% sell on etc. Fulham asking for the same price for Sessegnon as they did last season despite him entering last year or his contract, not having a brilliant season in the Prem and them getting less than 500k in compensation if he leaves on a free to Europe next summer is just utterly ridiculous and I don't blame Levy at all for not paying up.
And no other suitors

If rose is going to stay which is looking more than likely then I see no reason to pay 25-30m for sessengon now when we can get him for a knock down tribunal fee next summer when he is out of contract and I imagine that’s probably what levy is thinking

We hesitated on Barkley - now an England regular

We tracked Maddison for years - now a PL star and worth £60m+

We dragged out Grealish all last summer and failed - best player in the Championship last season, now worth £50m+

We tracked Aarons - Championship team of the year and new contract

You can add Brooks and Dan James to this list too.

Not a dud in the lot of them. Maybe we should follow through for once? I hope we get him (provided Fulham reduce their price).
But are any of them good enough to improve us? Being honest who should we have got rid of in favour of them? I take your point to a certain extent but ultimately I am not sure we miss any of them.

Lol.

Our targets are clear though and there are positive noises on all of the deals being completed at some point before the end of the window.

What we would have lost in experience from rose, trips, Dembele and Toby we will gain in youthful exuberance and energy in sess, foyth, NDombele and Lo Celso.

Our team was looking stale and out of ideas last year. Personally i’m as optimistic as i’ve ever been going into the new season with these new signings.

We would all be optimistic with those signings - problem being only Ndombele has actually been signed. Even if the others are eventually sorted, we know Poch requires players in before pre season if they are to be properly integrated into the 1st team before Christmas . So we hit the ground for start of the season without Sess or Lo Celso avaiable for 1st team selection

Do you mean "us" as a squad? If so, Barkley, Grealish and Maddison would have certainly improved us.

That depth would have almost certainly given us a chance to rest Eriksen and Dele more towards the end of the season and potentially given us a better shot in the final. As it happened they were both fucked by that point and didn't show up, through no fault of their own IMO.

I don't see him signing another contract.

Another full season under his belt wouldn't be the worse thing for all involved either.

I would still go to 25m maybe a bit more but 40m is getting a bit rich.

If Sessegnon is out of contract then suddenly his wage demands will probably rocket and he and his agents will want a nice signing on fee too. Much better to get him now if possible and let him cover left back and left wing to ease him in gently. Still think we will sign him this window.

That'd have to rocket pretty high to match the 40 million plus Onomah that Fulham want though

We were looking to add them, not for them to replace anyone specifically. I suppose you could say Lo Celso is the alternative to Barkley and Grealish should he come in, in which case we've done alright. HG would still be an issue though.

I have a feeling that come the end of the window we'll be looking at Aarons in the same vein as AWB.

I still don’t get why we didn’t sign Messi when he was 13 or Ronaldo before he went to Utd

We track a lot of players and the vast majority don’t ever make it (Connor Wickham, Calum Mcmanaman, etc...) who’s to say if we did sign Brooks, Maddison, Aarons, etc that they wouldn’t turn out to be another Holtby, Taarabt, N’Jie, Jansen, etc...

Just because a player has a few games and plays well for another team doesn’t mean they would be a guaranteed success or even be able to break into the team at spurs.

I'm not just plucking names that have been briefly linked with us though. These are players that had serious ITK and media links. In fact I was saying that the club seems to be identifying the right HG targets, I just hope we start actually signing some of them, starting with Sessegnon.

Agreed but not impossible that his head might be turned as he would potentially have more suitors if he's on a free and being offered silly money.

Yeah that might be the case, the only hope is we have a decent relationship with his agent + his desire to play for Poch, There's a reason nobody else has agreed a fee with his parent club though, they're asking too much of everybody not just ourselves.

At the end of the day it will always be about money. He’s not going to turn down a much bigger pay packet from a team like United just because he wants to play for Poch.

I wonder why we’re not discussing a buy with loan back. They get something for him and get him for the add’l year.

They’d probably get 5-10M at the tribunal. Offer them 15M + Onomah and they get to have RS back on loan this season to try to get promoted.

He still needs minutes and will grow a lot more playing as a starter for Fulham than he would in domestic cup games for us.

It’s a tough market though esp when other clubs are throwing money around like it’s going out of fashion (£100k/wk for Hudson-Odoi is crazy)

Just on the figure being used (£40mill) would put Sess into the top 5 most expensive teenagers of all time, bumping our very own Lucas Moura who sits at number 5 (£38mill) and just on par with Vinicius Junior.

I know different times, standards etc etc but football is fucking mental.

I don’t think this should hinge on Rose. Maybe it does, but I don’t think it should.

It’s still uncertain what Sessegnon’s future position will be on the pitch. But even if he comes in and plays a few games this season, some at LB and some further forward I think it will be a good start to get him in and settled. And it gives him a better chance of being ready for next season should Danny decide to leave then. I also think Sess would really benefit learning from Rose. Rose too started out as a winger, and they have some similar attributes. Both athletic, Sessegnon has that pace like Rose whereby he’s quick but not lightning fast so Rose could maybe show him how to use his pace, something I think Rose is good at as he doesn’t have that electric pace Walker had to bail him out. Also by waiting until January or next summer we run the very high risk of someone else snapping him up

The more I see the price rise the more I think we can leave this one till Jan or next summer.

Maybe we can strengthen elsewhere.
If we don't get him now we won't get him at all.

There are plenty of other clubs interested including Liverpool.

German clubs will be queuing up.
