Absolutely think he has skill set and athleticism to compete with Reggi and potentially displace him.
Maybe but it’s his dynamism & aggression I would question. Whenever I’ve seen him he looks timid & not able to take the game by the scruff of the neck & impose himself.

He should be given a fair shot by Conte. I can’t see us selling him anytime soon as we’d no doubt be taking a massive hit on him.

I’d reiterate what others have said though - he’s shown very little in the time he’s been here. He’s not had an extended run in the team but he’ll need to show something first to get the chance. I do think LWB is made for him as a position…if he can’t make that role his own then I doubt he’ll be able to fit in as a pure attacking player or in a back four.

The first thing he needs to do is to get over his injury and get into the required physical shape.

At Fulham I think he showed excellent potential but at the same time that he wasn't going to be a top player for us immediately and there's a fair amount of developing to do.

Hopefully, there's a player there but it's going to take a bit of time.

I'm not so sure mate.

From what little I've seen of him when he's been given a chance with us, he's not so much been timid, but more like starstruck.

He's played as though he doesn't have the belief that he's as good as the players he's been bought in to play alongside.

He was very good at Fulham, and I have a feeling that's because he knew, even at that age, he was better than the majority of his teammates. So played with the confidence & swagger that backed up his belief.

Seems similar in Germany, he settled very quickly and the supporters seemed to instantly take to him. So he was relaxed & just enjoyed his football.

If Conte or his coaching team can get into Sessegnons head & instill a bit of belief, there's a chance this kid could really turn things around.

Somebody said yesterday (sorry I can't remember who it was) about when Ryan signed for us, how unbelievably excited he was to get a move to our club. But he was a boy, literally. It was a massive thing for him to do at such a young age.

Really want things to work out for this lad.

Annoyingly if you mixed Reguilon and Sessegnon you'd have a pretty much perfect LB. Reggy is too chaotic and aggressive but Sess is too timid and passive. Put Sessegnon calmness and ability in the final third alongside Reguilon's athleticism and you'd get a Hakimi-esque wing back.

Agree. It's the main thing he needs to overcome tbh. Physically he's more equip than Regi but just doesn't have any aggression on or off the ball. If he manages to improve in that area I think he could become a really good option for us at LWB.

Give him and Reguilon 20 games each at LWB and I guarantee Sess scores more than Reguilon does.

He just needs an injury free run with us. His finishing is probably only 3rd to Son and Kane in our current squad imo. You can maybe argue Tanguy ahead of him but I refuse to accept anyone else above him in the finishing stakes. He'd be a welcome addition back into the squad with our lack of goals.

I don't doubt his ability/talent and hope that with a prolonged spell of fitness and a coach that can really make him believe and trust in his ability he can become what we all hoped he would be. Cause we definitely need all the help we can get right now.

For me, anything positive we get out of him is a bonus at this point, Feels like we have seen just about none of him since he came here. It’s a shame the injuries have taken their toll as you have to feel Conte would love working with him, and he should have been so much further with his development by now.

Some good points good and bad by everyone but the lad can't stay fit so it's all for nothing. He shouldn't even be thinking about playing, just getting through training without anymore setbacks and then we'll see whats physically left as lots of leg injuries will take their toll even on a young player.

Isn’t that pretty much exactly what timid means?

Sess is possibly the player I'm most excited about for Conte's reign.
If, a big IF, he can get over his injuries, he could be the perfect player for Antonio.
He'll have a manager whose system suits him, and can give him the guidance and confidence he needs.

It's all there for him, as long as he can stay fit.

Not in my mind.

Timid is a lack of courage/confidence, not being starstruck.

If he was lacking courage or confidence, he'd not have undertaken a jaunt across to Germany at what is still an unbelievably young age.

Hope that helps.

I'd say that not believing you're good enough to player with the players you are would mean you were lacking confidence...

Agree?, his ability and talent is not in doubt, its more about his mental strength / makeup, confidence and that final drive/determination to make it to the next level to match his undoubted talent he has.

He's quite a stark reminder of the pitfalls in signing an injured player. That hamstring injury and associated problems has been pretty catastrophic during his time here although at the time, the general consensus here was to 'just get the deal done'. We've had next to nothing for the 30m or whateverit was. I just really hope he gets fit and that Conte can get something out of him now.

Yup. I have to be honest, outside of a nice finish vs. Bayern, I haven't seen anything of the guy that would suggest he'll come close to repaying the £30m.

I really hope it works out, but I just don't see that he has any particular point of difference: dribbling, crossing, defending, aggression, pace - all are fine, none are exceptional.

I worry that he won't make it

Fair comment.

Those 6 PL appearances & the same amount of Cup/Europe appearances have definitely given us ample opportunity to judge whether he'll come close to repaying the free we paid to sign him.

Also, while not showing you anything that comes close to suggesting he'll come close to repaying the outlay for him. He happens to have scored more than the unbelievably hyped Reguilon, who has played more than 4 times as many games as Sessegnon for has.

Funny old game
