The key is Hojbjerg sticking to his guns and maintaining he'll only sign for us. If he does that the price will eventually start coming down as Southampton get squeezed. It's classic Levy territory but deeply unsatisfying for the fans who just want stuff sorted. Conversely, KWP could go anywhere for the best price and I fully expect there to be interest, so maybe Soton need to get on with it while they have a free run.

If we wait long enough we can get him for nothing.

Have we been linked to Partey?

Would be a lovely combo, not far off the 16-17 axis in its ability to dominate three men midfields as a two.
Not been linked but it looks like a good value deal at 40m.

Jose was trying to get him in at United.

Personally I would rather we invested in the DM roles than RB and Attacking Midfielders.

What's the thoughts on a combo of Hojbjerg and Partey?
Partey is the one I really would love us to sign. He’s heavily linked with the scum and I’ll be distraught if he goes there as he would be a huge upgrade on their current crop of CMs.

Sadly I haven’t seen us linked at all and suspect he’ll be out of our price range unless we cash in on one of our high value assets (Tanguy / Dele)

No he didn't, he's more 8 than 6 and Hojbjerg has better defensive numbers than Partey.

I agree with where we need to invest. I’ve said for ages that the entire side improves if we get it right at DM. It depends really on what Jose sees as his style going forward. If we go with a two, then Hojbjerg and Partey (or a.n.other) makes perfect sense, but I suspect that we’ll go with a three as we have several midfielders far more suited to that already (and not suited to a two) and this has always been Jose’s preferred system: a shield, an all rounder and a spare man who joins the attack when in possession.

City - Summer 18 signed Mahrez in July, Summer 17 signed Walker, Danilo, Mendy, Ederson, Silva all in July.
ManU - Summer 19 James & AWB in June, Summer 18 signed Dalot & Fred in July, Summer 17 Lukaku, Matic, Lindelof all in July.
Chelsea - Summer 18 Jorginho & Kovacic both in July, Summer 17 Rudiger, Bakayako, Morata all in July
Arsenal - Summer 19 signed Ceballos, Martinelli, Saliba in July, Summer 18 Leno, Sokratis, Torreira, Guendouzi all in July, Summer 17 Kolasinac and Lacazette both before August

Do you want me to continue with Liverpool?

In the last 3 Summers we've signed 1 senior player before the last week of the window. We are absolutely worse than our competitors at this.

You make a good point. However, you don’t provide context.

We are not competing on a level playing field in the transfer market. Over the period in question, Spurs has been nothing like as wealthy nor as desirable a destination as the clubs whose transfer business you have compared to ours. We cannot afford to give in to the selling clubs’ demands as quickly and as easily as the likes of Utd, City, Chelsea and Liverpool. Furthermore, when we have been after top quality players, we almost always have to wait until the player and his agent can be certain that other, bigger clubs aren’t going to firm up their interest. And if that doesn't rule out the possibility of successful completion altogether, it certainly rules out any chance of an early completion.

As to Arsenal, I dispute that many of the players that you mention were bought as instant starters. And, other than Lacazette, none of them was the subject of widespread interest from other top clubs. Even he had many who doubted his ability to take his Ligue 1 form to a superior league (and they have been proved largely correct).

So while there is no doubt that Levy does drag his feet, you aren’t really comparing apples with apples.

We have also proven this year we can't afford to be outside the Champions League spots, so whilst I agree we can't do what those clubs do we can however find some middle ground between last week of the window and blowing them out the water like out competitors do.

How has that been proven?
