Came across this little montage of Pape from yesterday -

Reminds me of Kante as a player covers so much ground its like having an extra player in there. With the added benefit of about 2 foot of height.

If he can add some conviction, purpose and confidence to his passing then he will go up another level. Thats what bentancur has over him at the moment.

He has legs for days. His energy was immense all game on Sunday. Don't think we really realised how much we missed him while he was out for nearly 3 games.

I think Pape's legs are longer than me on their own.

He reminds me a little of Yaya Toure in how he runs and how powerful he is in patches. Obviously he is still developing and could turn out to be an altogether different type of player but for his age, he is doing exceptionally.

How come?
I might be wrong actually. UEFA used to specify that the 3 year period required to qualify for HG, excluded any time spent out on loan, however this no longer appears to be in the ruling, which would be amazing as it would mean Sarr counts as club trained.

Same rules.

Same situation as Matt Doherty. HG in PL. Overseas in CL/EL.

An "association-trained player" is a player who, between the age of 15 (or the start of the season during which the player turns 15) and 21 (or the end of the season during which the player turns 21), and irrespective of his nationality and age, has been registered with a club or with other clubs affiliated to the same association as that of his current club for a period, continuous or not, of three entire seasons (i.e. a period starting with the first official match of the relevant national championship and ending with the last official match of that relevant national championship) or of 36 months.

Different situations. Doherty counts as HG in the PL as he played in Ireland which is counted by the PL as they are in the UK, however with UEFA they don't count as they are a different country with a different league.

Sarr, despite being out on loan in France, was still registered in our PL squad that season, so technically has been registered for 3 years by the end of the season in which he turns 21. It just depends if UEFA have a rule to get stop this, which the PL don't. Its the same thing Arsenal did with Saliba.

Think we’ve got our wires crossed.

When I say same rules, it’s in response to UEFAs rules having changed re: discounting loan periods for the 3 years.

They haven’t changed. They are the same rules as always.

Doherty was registered at 18 by Wolves but had 1 year on loan in Scotland.

Had it been in France it would still have been same outcome. HG for PL, overseas for CL.

For the same reasons as Sarr and Saliba.

I see what you are saying, but difference is, Wolves didn't register Doherty for the PL whilst he was on loan we did with Sarr, as Arsenal did with Saliba.

This is about the highest praise there is (<--- note avatar) but Sarr is the closest thing we've had to a Dembele replacement IMHO. So elegant on the ball, crazy engine, deceptive speed, difficult to dispossess.

As with Mousa, when Pape gets the boll, I just get calmer 'cause I know he's probably going to take very good care of it.
