Conor Gallagher has been mentioned as a replacement for PEH to be fair.

Personally I'd have seen Tosin (the obvious HG CB option) as a Sanchez replacement, more of a stand in for Romero.

I would take Gallagher in to replace Hojbjerg if it meant getting both centrebacks.

Not a bad idea.

One of the inherent contradictions I find within the ITK thread is that we're meant to discuss ITK and leave the player discussion to the player threads...except the ITK is almost always about players which naturally encourages discussion about them. I always feel like I'm walking a tight-rope between on-topic and off-topic in that thread and it's hard to define sometimes.

Well, except for the Levy stuff which really doesn't belong there ofc.
There are too many threads anyway that's why I and I suspect most people only rely on reading the two ITK threads I mentioned. Personally, I don't have the energy or time to read all the individual players threads.

Guy looks a beast, but we desperately need voices in the back line. Romero and Royal certainly havent shown that quality, and they are the only 2 solid defenders we've got. Not including Porro as jury still out on defending (going forwards hime and Destiny are the bomb) but its defensive leadership and voice we are missing

The jury us out on 2 out of 3 signings. Both have had terrible seasons. I'd be livid if we spent 100m eur on them.
Don't know why anyone would be livid; we're not spending 100m on anyone and the ticket prices are still going up. It's not like the scum is going bust because they've invested is it? Its all within their means, and should be ours. The mentality of, oooh, 100m, like, so what? The club is worth billions, it makes literally no difference to us fans what we spend as things will get more and more expensive regardless but shows footballing ambition.

And the jury is still out on about 85% of our squad let alone our 'big' signings.

Yeah fair enough, but if we removed the read-only and just kept the ITK thread open exclusively for ITK (only blue-backgrounds could post) then it would never get closed and you'd only have one thread you'd need to look at to get your fix.

Usually the actual discussion in the ITK thread isn't that great and then it gets shut constantly which, ironically, means you see even less ITK since it's gets buried in the player threads instead.

Anyway, sorry am getting off topic.

I for one welcome our new gigantic, very fast, Dutch overlord (well...if we sign him).

I'm over exaggerating, just to counter balance your ridiculous overreaction.

It obviously does make a difference to you, since you are quoting the amount spent.

I don't care if we spend 50m, 10m, or 300m. It's about getting the right player, in terms of fit.

Arsenal can outspend us, it doesn't bother me. They were doing similar when we were finishing 2nd - 3rd in 16-18.

It's not just a case of keeping one and we'll be fine. you are still only allowed x amount of non HG so the HG ones you have need to be of use. Also we are building a squad not just for this season but for the next few years and have to be mindful of creating a squad eligible for European competition. The idea is revolution this Summer, and then evolution in the following transfer windows.
What? VAN DE VEN is evolving!

Congratulations. Your VAN DE VEN evolved into VAN DE VENOM.

I wouldn't say it was a ridiculous overaction, though I'm probably biased in that opinion.
The crux of the issue is, once again, we are rumoured to be only buying one of two very reasonably priced centre-backs that we could bring in. We have been crying out to sort out the defence since Toby and Jan, and yet we still seem to be making the cheaper decision, and that is consistent with our mindset as a club, that mindset being unambitious under the guise of being financially prudent. I used the example of the scum only to highlight the stark difference in ambition, and I suppose, risk, a threshold we have rarely if ever crossed to our detriment. I guess the frustration comes from the notion that we don't have the spending power, or that some kind of big outlay will send us into administration or a situation where we cant afford training bibs nespresso pods, it won't, it's a fallacy and yet the narrative around here seems to be one of saving 10m here and there will actually make a difference to us in some way. The only place it makes a difference is on the pitch, when halfway through the season we're relying on some half-arsed loanee to deliver miracles.

Thanks for the update.
Total clown show as to why we wouldn't get both, clearly both are better than the current turds and we know for a fact Romero will get suspensions and we also know that he isn't the finished article by a long shot. Penny pinching all the way to the dividends, oh and how much for a match ticket?!

Sad to see how content we are with the ambition shown, look down the road at what the Scum are doing, quietly, buying big and hard in the key places, if all is to be believed. And we're bargain hunting, saving a few quid here and there hoping the Ange is the second coming and can turn everyone into some kind of dream team.
You really nailed your username.

I guess i'm the only one who hears his surname and think about the Venga Boy song (Venga Bus one!)

Van de ven is comin'!

It also helps the beginning is "we like to party" easily transformed to "We hate Partey, we hate Partey, Partey"

Sorry, work is driving me insane today lol

That song always makes me think of the Arsenal back line sitting deep aka ‘The Wenger Bus’.

I’m very excited by this signing regardless of any Tapsoba business. He’s perfect for a high line defence with his pace and he looks quality on the ball for me from watching him. I think this is one of the cases where I’ll take what I’m seeing over any stats tbh because he’s got what I want to see on the ball, his range of passing looks great, he’s got a burst of pace and agility to get away from pressing players and I’ve seen him chuck in turns or pieces of skill when pressed that our current CB’s couldn’t dream of doing, he looks midfielder level comfortable on the ball and his potential looks absolutely huge because of all of the above. This is a superb signing if we pull it off
