I really think that Solomon is the player with the highest upside relative to expectations during the second half of the season. The narrative when he signed was a mixture of blaming Levy for looking for the free deal and some viewed it as taking advantage of the war in Ukraine.

He was, in my opinion, the best positive surprise during pre-season together with Lo Celso. In one of his two starts in the league he created 5 chances and got 2 assists against Burnley.

Since then we've signed Johnson and (soon) Werner whereas Solomon has become somewhat forgotten, especially by rival fans.

He is our best dribbler in the forward line, can play on both flanks and is able to impact the game from the bench as he showed last season when he scored as a sub in three straight games for Fulham.

Agree, I do feel he has been forgotten about somewhat. Personally I’m really looking forward to see him back especially now Son’s gone. Im really hoping he’s fit enough to make the bench against Utd. I’ve never been a big fan of Werner on the wing, he’s much better at CF so the sooner Solomon is back the better.

There’s the potential to play Solomon, Werner and Brennan with Kulu at 10, Lo Celso at 8, Bentancur at 6, and just look to hit them with through balls. The Utd side can’t seem to hold the discipline of a backline

Agree, was thinking the same and I’d love to see it. I just don’t see Solomon starting considering he didn’t even make the bench last time out. Being realistic I think the most we can hope for is 20 mins off the bench but I’d love for Ange to surprise me.

I was hoping he was already back in full training and a possibility for Utd. Looking forward to seeing what he can bring to the table.

I thought exactly the same, was hoping he'd be a bench option for United at the very least. Still a boost nonetheless I guess. We have some good pacy options up front now with Werner, Son, Solomon and Johnson.

I thought Perisic is out of contract in the summer, and I agree Bryan is probably going to move - but neither really factor into the 1st team right now - so if we bring in a player to compete for the 1st team, I would not be shocked to see Solomon moved - in loan or sale.

Thought I'd reply in here rather than the ITK thread. Apologies for bumping the thread with no real news.

I think I would still be very surprised for him to be moved on in any capacity after one season. I could maybe see it if he's used a lot in this second half of the season and proves to be incredibly ineffective.

I like the player though, if I'm honest. I think he's one of those that has a lot of talent, but just needs to learn to use effectively.

If I am being honest - I thought he was better skilled than Son for the LW role. Not as good a finisher - but better able to take on a man and get a cross or cut-back in.

But, I am not sure Ange sees it that way, and he is a fair bit better judge than I am. I also think there may be injury/reliability concerns after two knee injuries in successive years.

What do you base this on? Genuine question, he looked alright to start the season and has missed out since September due to a knee injury.

Fans like to complain about the fee we paid for Johnson while at the same time being underwhelmed by a free signing.

Had a good pre-season and start of the season, where he showed he can play on both flanks. He has showed he can make an impact off the bench at Fulham and is arguably our best 1 on 1 dribbler in the forward line.

Looking forward to see more of him.

I agree with your view - I am just a bit concerned that at 24 years of age he should have learned how best to use his talents already.

I think we've really missed him even if just as an impact sub for the final 20 mins
We need to close games out better and that's where some of these injuries are impacting us

I think it depends on the coaches he's had TBH.
He seems very direct but to the detriment of passing and moving. But a lot of coaches want just that from their wingers. (run at the man, put the ball in or shoot)

As a result it seems he cannot use the ball that quickly and often plays with his head down.

Ange will obviously try and change that if he is to be a big part of the team.
If he is someone that thinks about his game and wants to learn and improve than he's halfway there (y)

We miss him also because our players can't go at 100 per cent comfortable in the knowledge that they can be subbed at 60 to 70 minutes when they flag

Nice. Liked what I saw from his brief appearances so far. Helps with depth and rotation.

I honestly can't even remember his performances. Hopefully this is the end of the injury problem and we get some game time out of him.

Hopefully he's not one of those players that will constantly be injured.

Don’t think he will ever be a world beater but he’s a really useful squad option and had a fantastic match away against Burnley, will be very valuble to have him back soon.

We have to remember also that Ange was talking about how he was just adjusting to the system before he got injured. The best is still to come I'm sure.

Great point, I remember Ange saying that too. With him and Maddison back and Werner now on board our attacking options would be decent again and then when Son is back as well they’ll be very strong :) 💪

He's done superbly to get back to fitness.

I think he'll surprise a few once he gets settled.
