It was either football weekly or the totally football show which did a fair bit of a show on Shaktar. Part of it focused on their well established strategy of buying Brazilians and selling them on making healthy profits. They started to move away from that strategy to look further afield which is how they ended up with Solomon. They were hugely excited when they signed him and he started slowly but they believed they had a real talent on their hands.

Not much but it's encouraging

Great for Everton. Can't remember a single thing he did at Spurs, sadly. Talented though he was.
Oh yeah, he wasn’t a great player for us but he was still a good player imo. Sometimes the timing isn’t right or whatever but I liked him as a player.

He really didnt fit in for some reason did he. Obviously the quality we had in those positions didn't help and probably wasn't given the time to settle.

Anyway on Solomon my reaction is "meh" we need an extra player in those positions. He is a decent impact player from what I've seen with a lot of energy so that's all good but would be surprised if he is anything more than that.

So it feels more like job done, positioned covered, lets focus on key positions kind of signing for me.

I’ve mentioned the ‘curse’ I’ve had with naming characters and them ending up being Spurs players - most recently in a ghostwritten novel i randomly picked Danjuma as a villain’s name, and we know what happened there… well, the bad guy in my novel Silver was one ‘Solomon’ … meant to be ;)

Pienaar was 29 years old when we signed him and very much fixed as a player. You don’t develop at 29, you’re set as a player.

Solomon is a 23 year old with a lot of talent and plenty of time and room to develop as a player.

It’s a ridiculous comparison.

We all moan when other teams sign undervalued players and they become really good, yet when the club try and do it we just write the player off and slag off the club lol.

It might not work out but there’s also a chance it does and he becomes a really good player who we got for free. If it doesn’t work out it’s a low risk move.

Let’s give the kid a chance!

I've got a few suggestions for your next book. Mbappe, Bastoni, Kimmich

Meh, smacks of the opportunistic scatter gun approach to signings that's been so ineffective for us in the past. Also, don't really like the optics of this signing, considering the FIFA ruling. Hope he does well though and doesn't end up as deadwood we're trying to shift in two year's time.

The kind of signing a small club makes.
I guess if had had a price tag of 40m you’d be much happier ?
Remember the Napoli winger / Kim min Jae and fans turned their noses up at them because they were classed as cheap deals! This player looks class! Doesn’t always have to come with a hefty price tag to make them a good player!

I don't see a problem with this deal.

Young-ish player, replaces Lucas and Danjuma who rarely played significant minutes.

The cost is a pre-season Friendly - that we would have wanted to play anyway.

We absolutely still need to bring in multiple defenders - and if the defenders are of a similar level - I would agree those would be bad signings. This, is opportunistic and fills a back-up role.

One of them was kicked into his face to be fair…
The only goal he scored with his head was vs brentford when the freekick hit the bar and he was the only fulham player following up the freekick and had a free header from it

And if he flops we sell him for a small profit in a couple of years. You can see he has potential though so worth a punt for sure.

Less positive than others on this - unsure why people are so convinced it’s not just Levy exploiting an opportunity to sign an undervalued player.

Not HG (particularly important after we went for Vicario), promising but not actually that young, and in the same position as Gil who I believe has a far higher ceiling. Hope I’m horribly wrong of course.
Have you seen him play much?

Also he’s 23, hardly ‘not that young’.

Much better end product than Gil.

It’s just a clever deal for a decent player in a position we need to free up funds to spend on CB’s etc.

It’s just an all round good deal.

If we don’t sing ‘Manor, oh Manor Manor, Oh Manor Manor, Oh Manor Solomon’ to the tune of Have Nagila (like we did for Ronnie Rosenthal), we’d be missing a trick
I was logging into the thread to say the exact same thing. His name scans perfectly!

He’s an exciting winger, kind of. Combination of Lennon & Hazard, can play LW & RW, We are signing him almost essentially on a free transfer, he’s only 23, such a great deal.
👏
