Thought he was already on his way to Netflix for 100 million? Huge Levy deadline swoop if this is true.

I love these types of signings. No rush to get it done tonight of course given the extended deadline.

I don't see the point of signing a player for the sake of it.
How many games will he play? Is he better than what we have?

If we want to go back in for Skriniar in January, then paying up to £18m for Rodon would make it unlikely. Unless we are selling another centre back, then i'm not sure we will go for another defender until next summer at the earliest.

we have to invest in the future as well as the now. Would be bad management if we didn’t

It's only disappointing as we were in for Skriniar, who is a level above what we have.

To then bid for a Championship player, with no top level experience is a bit of a drop down in the standard.
I would have said the same thing if we had bid for Ben Godfrey or John Stones as well.

I am not saying he isn't any good and could make the transition like Jarrod Bowen and Ollie Watkins or even our own Dele Alli.

I think I might have been overly harsh in previous posts and if we sign him, then I look forward to seeing him play.

One thing I would say to those who are disappointed as we were close to skriniar, whos to say skriniar would come in and be what we thought? The fact that conte isn’t as much of a fan of him signals something to me (I know he doesn’t play well in a back 3 apparently). I’d say if we do get rodon then I’m fine with it, no harm done to invest in the future, and also, those saying why sell foyth then get him, foyth always struggled with English football IMO. Very rash and sometimes really poor on the ball, quite slim also so would get muscled off a lot of the time. Rodon is 6’4, is a lot more physical, and has played at a good level of English football. Let’s see what happens but I’m certainly not as disappointed as some are! Especially with the other business we’ve done.

Makes a lot of sense if we can't get Skriniar now. Rodon plays on the left side of the defence so he's exactly what Jose has been looking for.

I wouldn't suddenly rule out Skriniar in the next couple of windows. I'm near certain Toby won't be here this time next year. Might be tempting for Inter to take Toby + cash for Skriniar in January...

The way i see this transfer is hes a highly rated defender that can be got for a decent price. Looking at match threads and tin hat firmly fixed to my head we probably need 2 or 3 CB in the long term. Toby on his way out. Sanchez not consistent enough and Dier should probably be upgraded on if we want to be a serious force in the mid-long term. Get this kid in now and go for a real beast next summer. We need a solid partnership for 5-6 years not chopping and changing every year due to not being 100% confident in any of our pairings.

I see their forum has a thread that complain about Premier League spending too much money in these times with covid and financial difficulties.
But then they get upset when their player is valued at 18m, surely they can appreciate why we only come in with 7m?

or we are trying to negotiate that price down when reportedly Swansea has problems with money?
And we just happen to have their ex finance director or similar who happens to know exactly how much money they need/would take

Birch will know their finances, their internal player valuations and their covid exposure. If there's one deal we know the correct value and pressure points to get done, it's this one.

SSN have got Harry Redknapp on.

Let’s see if he drops some ITK, he usually can’t help himself

What if we think he is awesome and think he is going to be massive for us short and long term? We are under no pressure to sign anyone right now and maybe that is to our advantage as we can just focus on getting a player we believe in rather than a desperation last day “fill a hole right now” kind of player.
