Tottenham Hotspur are weighing up whether to make an offer for Joe Rodon, the highly-rated Swansea City central defender, Stuart James can reveal.
Currently on international duty with Wales and expected to play against England at Wembley on Thursday, Rodon has attracted interest from other Premier League clubs, including West Ham United.
Spurs are now very much in the picture and giving consideration to tabling a bid for Rodon, who has emerged as one of the brightest prospects in the Championship.
It is understood that Swansea will demand around £18 million for the 22 year old, with the club’s owners insistent that he will not be allowed to leave on the cheap. Tottenham would no doubt hope to do a deal for a lot less.
Composed on the ball and dominant in the air, Rodon has made huge progress since making his Swansea debut under Graham Potter at the start of the 2018-19 season. He quickly established himself in the team with some excellent performances, went on to win his first Wales cap in September last year and has been outstanding for Swansea in their opening four Championship games this season.
Spurs are in the market for a more experienced central defender – Chelsea’s Antonio Rudiger and Manchester City’s John Stones are among the players targeted – and it remains to be seen whether a move for Rodon would still happen if they end up making another signing in that department today.
Tottenham have until 16 October to sign a player from the Championship because the domestic deadline for transfers between Premier League and EFL clubs is later.
