I’d like us to try and nip in on the Raya deal if it hasn’t been announced already.

it is early doors but Vic doesn’t fill me with confidence, not so much his ability to stop the ball but he’s strikes me as a player who’s going to have moments of madness pretty regularly.

if we don’t get a second keeper someone has to have a word about those parries in to dangerous areas, lucky not to be punished today.
1 game in mate. Away from home.

That’s why i said early doors.

those parries though are definitely a part of his game, the youtube videos before we signed him showed a lot of those
But the scouting team was ok with that? This is one of the things that often separates good from fantastic keepers, to position your self and save shots out to the sides, it is something keepers work on from very early days.

I agree it is still early though, so we have to give him time to get confident, but the warning signs are there imo.

Dominant and confident keepers always give the back 4 calmnes, but let's see.

I dont get these kind of views...

  1. Vicario was not fault for goals
  2. Vicario did not make any passing mistakes - all short passing were successful (except one to Sanchez)
  3. He did well in all crosses . even the one he palmed to the center. He was full stretch otherwise, Wissa on the other side has a tap in. It went center because it was full stretch
He came out to sweep a lot. He did have few issues with backline on when to come out & when to not come out and leave it to CBs. But this is simply down to lack of game time with back line. VDV is playing with all for first time as well.

When ball was passed back to Vicario , he deliberately held on to the ball because he (or Ange) wanted Brentford to come at us to pressure. Whenever that happened, he did pass out fine. One time, ball went out, thats more down to Sanchez not running to it.

We have had a passive goal keeper for years. Lloris was this same crazy keeper in his first 2 years. He fine tuned it between 2015 & 2019. But for last 4 years, he never comes out to sweep after losing his pace.

IMO we need a crazy keeper who comes out. But only by playing more & more with backline, he can become better

There is no reason IMO, to criticise Vicario. I will criticize on those days where he actually going to cost us, not days like today

As a club we just need to come out of this numbness of having passive Goal keeper for last 5 years

Thought he was fine. Nervy early, then more comfortable looking late. I don’t get the consternation. Let the kid settle. ¯\_(ツ)_/¯

He (and we) would benefit from a settled back line so that they can really gel.

I thought he did ok today but there were some heart in mouth moments, very reminiscent of early Hugo.

Has a few worrying traits but you'd hope they will smooth out.

Little bit rash today, came out and could have given a pen away. The parry to edge of box could have been punished and he should have been really.

Hope he can just calm down and be more solid on the ball.

It is hard to agree with there is no reason to criticize because if he did something wrong, there's no improvement without it. There's no reason to be over the top for sure and project into the future from today's performance, but i'd suggest that there are teachable moments for him today. He came out too far, too quick on two occasions. His communication with the backline was poor but that's a collective mistake, not an individual one. And his booting the ball up the pitch to nowhere was unproductive. He had two fine saves, distributed the ball well and has a ton of potential. I really really like what i saw with the exception of that decision making.

New keeper in new league is a little nervous in first PL game if the season… who’d have thought it. And really he didn’t make any real mistakes and the goals that went in were beyond his control, a pen and a deflection.

There’s early doors and there’s finding the first plank of wood to make the door.

Not really i didn’t call him shit and that we should get rid, he’s got some traits that do not fill me with confidence, as i’m sure many feel the same.

i said i’d like us to nip in for Raya at 20m, 2 keepers fighting for the spot would elevate both and cover us.

Ok. You can understand how people might think that when you criticised him and said we should buy another keeper though, right?

I personally thought he did pretty well considered it was his first game in the PL. Caught crosses well. Looked confident and was shouting at the players too. It's a position which requires time and patience for confidence to grow. Bit like De Gea when he first came to United, he was an absolute mess of a keeper but grew into a fine keeper.

He also had the Brentford fans on his case at every touch. He dealt with it pretty well as the game went on. I like the fact he's ballsy (pun intended). He's not afraid to come out and sweep, yes there will be times it goes against us but we definitely need a keeper not afraid to be a sweeper in this high line system.

Was happy with his distribution too, its just a matter of gelling with the team and defense, and I'm confident he will be clutch in many games this season for us. I'd rather this be the season for the team to make mistakes and grow out of them too.

Brentford fans are nobs for their pantomime acts trying to make him nervous on his debut so that it becomes ‘a thing’ during his career with us. Sure he should have a strong enough mentality to not let that phase him but still, it surely has some effect.

Honestly I’m still pissed off that the premier league have put us away from home the opening weekend and the final weekend.

Brentford fans did exactly what they should and I'd hope we do the same. It's all part of the game and something he'll need to deal with.

To clarify he didn’t have a bad game and wasn’t at fault for any of the goals.

I came away from the game thinking he has a bit of the Hugo’s about him, if he can become half the shot stopper Hugo was then great but with a young defence in front of him some of his traits concern me, considering how exposed he is going to be to the counter i’m hoping he adds some composure as time goes on, but with Hugo those moments of madness were just the way he was wired.

take away from this shit post - goalkeepers are lunatics

I think he was clearly nervy but I didn’t hate what he did today. There is a good keeper in there. Did give me Gomes vibes on a few of those sweeper keeper plays but I think he’s got time to adjust to the league and system.

I think he will be targeted this season as seems an emotional lad, however he has played in Italy the home of all dirty tricks so should be fine.

I was just hoping for a goalkeeper who was going to be a calm influence on an incredibly poor defence last season.

Im sure he will be fine but I did wonder if this was the style of keeper Ange approved, maybe an option over Forster might be needed as he is not the most mobile
