I am entering this thread to admit I was wrong and many of you are right. I will take all the flak directed at me. Good day.
No one’s gonna give you flak, especially for a post like this. Let’s hope he continues to play this way because we’ll find scoring goals much easier with both him and Maddison in the squad, Kane or no Kane. Quite an exciting prospect!

That could be a possibility, with Maddison on the right of the front three? It would certainly give us better service in to the box from there, and he does see himself as a bit of a Beckham. At home we could use them both in the midfield, especially with Emerson dropping in beside Bissouma, and Udogie/Reggy/Davies the other side of him.
I think we could but bissouma would have to be so tactically aware and wed need 3 cbs basically all with pace. So Emerson at rb but not really getting forward, Romero and tapsoba. Romero stepping into midfield to help bissouma mop up the danger and prevent counters with enerson and tapsoba behind covering runners

Mourinho actually loved him for a while. Gio carried us under Mourinho for a few months and apparently Mourinho made him play injured.

He had him playing in a CM2 though, with little possession and a lot of the time we were camped deep in our own half. He was good at springing the odd counter attack though.

If we aren't going to have to spend money replacing Lo Celso (and maybe NDombele) that SHOULD give us extra for the 2 CBs, shouldn't it?

Was never sure why we shipped him out in the first place, considering the dross we kept
He was never a Conte player as he isnt a fast transition type.

His best work comes in the final third with short intricate passing and he is great at arriving into the penalty area late.

Conte needed his AM to be able to not really be involved inbuild up as much other than switch play or run behind.

Jose tried to be fair but he doesnt suit a low block team and isnt effective out on the right with little support.

Nuno, no idea what he tried but he may have been injured?

He needs to have freedom to float. Ange will not only allow him to do that but demand it.

I was desperate to sign him back in 2019 and was absolutely buzzing when we did.

I stated many times I felt the style of play and managers we ended up with killed his development and didn’t suit him.

Ange and his system are literally the perfect fit for Gio and I have zero doubts he will shine in the CM roles under him, if he wants to stay.

My only concern is his injury issues. He basically never got injured before he signed for us but since he joined us he’s been hit with consistent injuries.

If he can stay fit, he will absolutely smash it for us under Ange.

He didn't suit the negative/pragmatic approach. The games he did play, son and kane would get marked up so no options, which meant he got blamed for not generating goals. I mean just go back and read what fans here were saying about him. End of season, how many here wanted him gone? How many said he wasn't good enough? It shows what a different manager who plays the way the squad is designed can do with the players we have written off.

This is a lesson we all should have learned from Poch reign.

I have said so many times that when Poch came in we had quite a few players who had been written off as not good enough, including the likes of Rose, Walker, Vertonghen, Dembele and even some saying Eriksen wasn’t good enough. Good coaching and the right style of play/system ignited those players and turned them in to stars.

The same thing could happen again with the likes of Gio and others.

That doesn’t mean every single player is going to be great but I think there may be some players who become stars who we had written off/were unsure of.

Let's not get too excited just yet, it's only been a couple of pre-season games. Yes he has looked good but I want to see him perform to a high standard regularly in the league before I start believing.

I like what he's doing so far but I remember Gio dos Santos setting pre-season on fire a few years back.

Such a shame he didn't seem to fit into the premier league, he was such an exciting player and when he left us he was mustard for Mexico, but he just vanished whenever he got a start for us, was so weird.

I didn't say pick him at any point. All I said was he didn't suit the system and many jumped on the players are rubbish bandwagon without even looking at if the system was right

I don't think many doubted his talent, more his attitude.

Now we don't know what was going on with him, but his numbers were poor mostly....for whatever reason.

A new manager, fresh approach and we're seeing a different looking player.
