Part of one of the worst summer transfer windows in recent times. 2018 bought nobody. 2019 pissed £120 million up the wall. Him and Ndombele have been so underwhelming.

We’ve also lost about 260-300 million in sales during that time by mismanaging contracts and clinging onto 3-4 players who should have been gone years ago.

Hate to say it because I was rallying for us to sign him and I know how good he can be, but he's absolutely been a disappointment. You can argue about injuries or playing time or positions but the fact remains that he has been a disappointment.

I've been hoping he finds his form here because I know that we'll sell him and he'll probably be a success elsewhere, which would be annoying, but he needs to get his act together quickly and start taking games by the scruff of the neck like he used to. Needs to do better.

Very sad to judge him in his first game of the season playing with Winks, Doherty, Davies and all young people who have not even 3 games in the first team.

Let’s be honest. It’s not his first season. I’m sorry I read it wrong. Either way. Big letdown.

It has had some problems but I would not rate it as a disappointment yet. I just want to see him play 5 or 6 PL games as an offensive midfielder and I think there I can rate him.

I still have faith. He showed enough under Poch and early on under Jose. He was part of an awful side with injuries hampering his ability to play consistently. I don't think one performance amongst a bunch of youth players in a mish mash side means all that much.

What we and he needs is a nailed down system and a role that suits his strengths, plus a bit of luck with injuries so he can get consistent playing time. Of all of our issues, he's far down the list. It will come.

Ok. I’ve seen him play 5-6 PL games in all positions. I’m still to be convinced. I love the guy, I love that he loves Romero. But he’s been shit. For Spurs. Right?

All fair points.

I think my disappointment is that we chose to play a weakened team and some youngsters. While it is fair this is a hard situation to play in, I was hoping for someone like Lo Celso to step up and lead a bit.

But this isn’t the game to judge him on.

Funny that I think in a 433 is probably his best formation and tonight we moved away from it. Its just his first game back. He needs a run of games. I just hope it doesn't come in the CL with poor players around him. He's a quality player but I think he'll always split opinion. He tends to keep things ticking along in midfield with not much else.

Your 100% bang on there ? ... i do feel if hadnt just come back last week from summer break that might of more been the case, especially in periods of the game rather than the entirety of the match, he looked especially rusty and off the pace in general.

2 years, done nothing. Other big clubs would shift him, we need to be ruthless.
Lol they wouldn't, you are really overrating how "ruthless" are other clubs. Or how much successful they are in being ruthless.

We really don't have any reason to sell him and saying that he has done nothing for 2 years is just being in meltdown after probably pointless match

He was our best player for around 6 months before COVID. He’s had a long summer. Playing with a load of kids and winks isn’t helpful really. Fucking better than winks or sissoko by a country mile. They need to leave not Gio.

Personally would sell - feel his ‘good period’ was exaggerated by just how dire we were at the time.

Not basing this on today either, just the fact that you can count his 8/10 and above performances at the club on one hand and he’s been here two full seasons.

He looked to be one of the only ones actively trying to make things happen. When there are no other attacking options and you’re the only one trying to make things happen you can end up looking very poor. He, Sess and Gil were about the only ones trying be progressive.

This, he had no space to move tonight because the team as a whole was just so rubbish. No outlet, no help. Not driving the kids under a bus obviously but he must of felt like he was being pushed under one with that line up.
