I've been lucky enough to see many of the greats play in a Tottenham shirt. Hoddle, Greaves, Ardiles, etc but never saw Bale play live. But he would be an automatic choice for the greatest all-time Tottenham Hotspur team.

Enjoy your retirement, it's well deserved.

Funny, I was just doing a team of my lifetime in my head

Ended up with Bale at LWB to accommodate Ginola and Son ?

Pob lwc, Gareth, thanks for the memories, you got me out of my seat so many times and I'll never forget you and Crouchy running wild in Italy.

Fully expect him to start showing up on the golf course as a semi-pro at least soon.

Much love.

Also remember his part in one of my favourite Spurs goals, Van der Vaart vs. Villa away in 2010. First goal here:

Everything good about that team was encapsulated in that goal and overall match. Down to 10 men, still dominated, scored two lovely goals.

Meanwhile, Real Madrid continue to prove why they and their various propaganda arms are completely grotesque:

Incredible how much achieved and that there is still a feeling that it could have been more. Only wish we had been able to keep him for a couple more seasons.

Gutted he isn't going to give the Euros a crack tbh, only 18 months away and he can play out a season in the US in the meantime whilst helping Wales qualify.

Gutting as always like to see him score whoever he plays for

Legend.

Hopefully the club will bring him back as a guest soon and the fans can show their appreciation.

The last ‘one-man team’ sort of player. No one else since has shown the ability to take on teams single-handedly and rip them to shreds like he has in his prime over the years

Biggest regret is us not being able to match his ambition. Wish we could have held onto him until his mid twenties at least.

*for anyone who says mbappe, rough him up and he doesn’t like it. Bale didn’t either tbf, but then he’d shake it off and make his mark.

Fancy being able to do this during your retirement...

Yet Ronaldo’s overhead kick against Juve won the goal of the tournament ? As good as that was, no way was it anywhere near as good as Bale’s and it was the final too! Pretty disgusting decision from the authorities…

Amazing player for us but that last season in particular, he was genuinely unplayable. Enjoy your golf Gareth!

We’ve had plenty of truly great players since I’ve been a fan and he’s up there with the very best.

Was a privilege to watch him single handedly destroy teams live from my view in the East Lower over the years.

I do however feel it’s a bit of a shame that the injuries took their toll and he wasted a few of his peak years ( in football terms at least - I’m sure he didn’t feel still winning medals and getting paid a shit load was a waste).

A force of nature at his best. A true total package footballer. We were lucky to have him for the time that we did, and as a Welshman his impact on the game in this country has been nothing short of monumental. A bonafide great.

He has been the most dominant Spurs player in the PL era and those of us who have seen it will not forget.
Probably the best praise you can get as a player.

How about this Sunday, perfect timing for some inspiration ?

Incredible player, I literally don't have the words to emphasise how good he was for us. I'm just lucky enough to have been able to witness it in my lifetime - definitely my favourite player to have watched in a Spurs shirt.

I know the phrase gets wheeled out every week, but he was a player that literally had everything. Even at his age, he still takes a better free kick than anyone in our squad.
