With Bale we could play 4-3-3 or 3-4-3 with Bale-Son-Bergwijn now while Kane is injured.. Tempting.

As much as the ship has seemingly sailed on this one, I think it’ll be a deadline day special if it’s going to happen. Madrid know we’re interested, Bale and his agent know we’re interested and neither party appears to have too many other offers... if something is going to break here it’ll be a VdV style present for Jose, I think. I can’t for a minute think this is one we’re spending a huge amount of effort on.

Once upon a time there was an extraordinary player who was sold to the highest bidder in all the lands combined. At the same time this occurred, the player's new chairman inserted a clause into the contract that the player could only return home when the last player of 7, purchased with the proceeds of the sale, was sold. The new chairman thought his plan was faultless and congratulated himself on being able to tie down one of the world's greatest players for the entirety of his career. However, little did the new chairman know that the extraordinary player was in reality the bastard son of the original chairman and over several years the player slowly bled his new club dry of money until they begged him to leave.

Thus, Levy will shortly welcome home his bastard son on a free whilst receiving £100m from Real Madrid for Erik Lamela.

True story.

Not in the Madrid team tonight. Probably as he's at Hotspur Way
It would be amazing. But, isn't it likely actually? If he's not with their team tonight, and Spurs and Madrid was supposed to have a meeting on this today, it makes no sense to have that meeting without Bale or his agent as long as salary is the big obstacle here. And it does make sense to have that meeting in London close to our training ground..?

Needs a last minute back down by agent and DL for a deal to be done I suspect. I guess RM like us and Eriksen want this saga over ... so there is a slim chance of it happening especially if we fail with other targets. Maybe even a loan with an option to buy in the summer to give time for a deal to be settled

Anyway. The above was a nice exercise in creative writing

The only person who can make this happen is bale himself. If he wants it it’ll happen. Nothing else is relevant, including whatever shite Barnett says.

I think Bale has the best situation going from a purely selfish perspective

1. He is a guaranteed pick for Wales. Maybe if he was French, German or Italian he might have to work harder to get in the team and force a move to play each week.
2. He is getting paid a huge amount of money to do minimal amounts of work, why would he want that to change?
3. He has already established he can say what he likes and won’t be forced by the club to do a thing (China move and Wales, Golf, Madrid flag)

Why would he move and risk having to work hard, adjust and fit into a new team? He could simply carry out his current contract and retire, or to play for Cardiff. Nothing in his actions shows me he has much desire left to achieve, or he could have gone to Bayern, PSG or a number of other wealthy clubs.
