Lol. Good point. What a twat.

In my defence I didn’t get a lot of sleep last night as I was woken by my 6 year old daughter kicking me in the face at 5am :D

Good kid, she knew you had to be awake to follow this thread for eight hours today - get your steps in and all that :D

Is that quote from Barnett new this morning or is it his quote from a couple of days ago and just repeated this morning on @afp whatever that is.

Well, it wasn’t going to go completely smoothly now, was it?

I’m fucking giddy.

The 8th, lesser known, dwarf.

Lets hope so - while an unsavoury thought, it's not quite as bad as if it turns out to be one of Santa's Reindeer.

This will be our best signing since Klinsmann. 26 fucking years ago!!

And maybe better than Klinsmann...

It is not done until he is holding up the shirt . The agent said its close. If it was done they wouldn't be asking him about it, it would be on the official website.

Chill out.

Love that the part of the quote people are focussing on is the ‘not done, it’s complicated’ part which is probably just him ensuring that he doesn’t get a thousand follow up questions, rather than the ‘it’s close’ part which suggests, guess what, it’s close!

Reading into that, the loan is agreed but RM wants a perm transfer. If so they probably won't subsidise his wages but if true and GB willing to take £250/week to get it done, then it's just a case of any transfer fee, which Levy won't and shouldn't pay. This is about RM being desperate to sell and GB wanting to come. Levy has Madrid over a barrel here and he's going to squeeze them, for all his faults and they are many, this is the shit he lives for.

He'll basically say to them, any transfer fee and you're subsidising his wages for that. That's what I would do anyway, there's always the loan fall back which RM has already agreed to subsidise anyway.

All opinion of course

We saw from the documentary that SSN is a staple at the training ground whenever the players are eating etc and that they aware of media coverage ( Winks on Mourinho).

I can only assume they will be sat there a bit like us at the moment - getting pretty hyped.

Some of them very worried...

I could just be tired from lack of sleep, but surely this makes no sense. Why would we not just take him on a free instead if that were the case?
Because he's still entitled to 600k a week from Madrid. Doubt he's just gonna want to rip that up until he has to when his contract expires. It also mitigates against risk for us because if he picks up injuries or doesn't perform then we're only obligated to pay his wages for 2 years.

I think I will have to log off SC today. The anticipation and potential crash is too much. Deadline day (where we do something exciting) has come early but seems like it will be dragged over a couple of days.

I think it's fair to say when people this close to a deal like Barnett speak this openly about it, it is fully expected to happen. If there was any real doubt he would be more cagey.

Of course, that doesn't mean it will happen - things can always fall through - but at this stage, imho, it's as positive as it gets. Bale is 95% on his way unless there is an unexpected spanner in the works.

The same with Mourinho talking about our striker situation: we ARE getting a striker, it's just a question of who and how quickly.

If permanent, Madrid can pay him off at a reduced fee, say 250k a week for 2 years remaining. Cannot see the point though because they can just subsidize over the 2 years on a monthly basis instead of being hit with a big amount this summer.

There is no chance they get a transfer fee when he is earning over 500K a week. So, 2 year loan to take him to the end of his contract and we pay 50% (or whatever Levy has agreed) of his wage is sensible for all parties.

The way Gareth has been treated at Madrid, he shouldn't be doing them any favours.
