Best of luck to him. Great pro who gave us some amazing memories. As i've read earlier in the thread, would i have loved to have got him a few years earlier than we did.

My concern in losing him, no matter how short term he'd be in the picture for, is that he did allow us to switch to a plan B in key games last year. He provided us with an attacking focal point which we simply don't have in certain games. Physically occupying 2 centre halves is a useful part of our game, especially when we have other attackers buzzing around in space in that 3rd - Alli, Son, Lucas etc.

I think we'll miss that this season sadly.

Legend. Did a good job for us, and that CL run was special. Always wanted him at Spurs, just a shame it wasn’t 5-6 before he came.

Glad the bastard is gone, wife was salivating over him every time he took the field for us and so was I, which kind of messed with my mind a bit cause I'm straight as a whistle.

Jokes aside, he was incredibly useful for us most of the time and I would've been happy to sign him up for another year or two. Wish him nothing but the best for the future and thanks for the memories Fernando.

Honestly think if he’d had more playing time for us early on he’d have had even more of an impact. He was more than just a target man, often showed some great touches.

Good luck to him an Napoli, where I think he will do well.

Fernando posted a farewell message to the Spurs fans on twitter

“After two wonderful seasons, today I say goodbye to Tottenham. It was a pleasure to wear this shirt and wherever I go there will be always a space in my heart for Tottenham and for their fans. I wish you all the best for this season and for the future! Thanks. #COYS?”

His message on Instagram was a lot nicer than that:

After two wonderful seasons, a Champions League final and arguably the most important goal of my career, today I say goodbye to Tottenham but that goal against Manchester City, the comeback against Ajax in the semifinals or the noise and support at the New White Hart Lane will forever be in my memory. In Spain we lost a Champions League but from today you have a lifetime fan. It was a pleasure to wear this shirt and wherever I go there will be always a space in my heart for Tottenham and for their fans. I wish you all the best for this season and for the future! Thanks. #COYS

Nice of him to say but I can't help but feel he will be somewhat disappointed with his time at Spurs. He never really got a fair chance at establishing himself IMO. We only really played him when we had no other choice and even then it never looked like we'd practiced any kind of proper system for playing with him either so he ended up being quite ineffective a lot of the time but mostly because the rest of the team didn't play to his strengths.

Generally he seems like a nice guy and I wish things had worked out better for him with us to be honest.
