I think the Porro move will help Emerson in the short term. It’ll take some of the heat off him from the Spurs fans because Porro will be the guy. He’ll have a role as a defensive specialist which is definitely going to be useful in certain situations and something which is more than capable of doing.

He’s a likeable guy and I can see him having a sissoko-esque transformation to a bit of a cult hero status.
I still think the Porro signing has transformed Royal. I think he has adapted to Ange’s style really quickly and looks a great fit in there. Porro has work to do to get game time ahead of Royal but I hope they can both continue to push each other to new levels.

Gone from a player hated by a large part of the fan base to a fan favorite.
I don't think he was ever as bad as a large part of our fan base would make out, but man how he's progressed since the Nuno days is wild. A very good defender and an impressive presence in that inverted fullback role.

Defensively he has always been solid, but he has an engine as well which makes him a really good fit for the role.

Very glad that Ange has seemingly gone for Royal over Porro as first choice. Porro at RB vs Brentford was a disaster waiting to happen.

Think Royal is tailor made for this system and will be a very important player for us this season even if he's not the flashiest RB in the world.

Quietly good again today. Really helps to keep the ball ticking in possession, which is not what we expected his strength to be after those lung busting runs under Conte. I like that kind of right-midfield-back hybrid position he plays. It naturally creates triangles.

Quietly good? I thought he was a standout

I'd like to see what Porro can do as a winger in Ange's system.

Should be our new captain (if Kane leaves). What a character - and must be loved by everyone in the dressing room.

Totally agree mate. Royal by far should be our 1st choice RB for Ange. Porro is a good footballer but he can’t defend, he’s a wing back or could be converted to a right winger but he’s not a RB and will take a heck of a lot of coaching to try and change that.

I’d be interested to see how Spence looks as he has the pace and physicality of Royal so could work ok under Ange but Porro will just get far too exposed unfortunately.

Also was Porro injured today as wasn’t even on the bench was he?

Shock horror our footballers look like footballers when the anti god of football (conte) leaves.
I was one who wanted him gone for a time. But against utd at home last season he was a beast. And city. We gave Grealish and co some large with him smashing them 😂

Don’t think….its fact he wasn’t as bad as people made out! That’s in the past now tho

he really looks like he’s going to be a major player in Anges system. I will be delighted IF he gets the fans behind him, deserves it. I may also point out to the lot round me that said he is shit!

Deserved his goal today, he was so influential all over the pitch. Brentford got in behind him a few times but I think that’s more of a systematic issue, rather than him being caught out of position.

Took his goal very well and finished the game very strongly.

He still frustrates me by slowing down the play but he keeps showing me that I know fuck all about football! 👍😂

I know ange wants his fullbacks to come inside but a little bit to often Royal just passes it straight back to Biss or Skipp. At one point he had the second most touches after Biss. A part from that he played very well today.

Not the answer for me as RB in this system despite his goal today. Too slow on the ball and I reckon a full back in Anges system (like Udogie) must have more natural pace to get back in defensive position.

Surprised about the lukewarm comments on todays performance, goal aside thought he did really well, long may it continue.
