I’m not going to lie, it was absolutely grim today from him. Absolutely no touch of a footballer at all, launches balls at players to hard or not hard enough and that’s before even getting to the inaccuracy. A very bad signing.

What I don't get was in a summer where our transfer policy was loans with options or part exchanges did we just slap down the cash for this guy when he played a few games for a poor Barcelona side. I know he had a season out on loan but we didn't see if he could step up to a bigger side.
Kind of risk you have to take before he becomes unaffordable. Plus a "bigger side" probably wouldn't sell their starting RB.

I think this Royal would be more effective

On the flip side though, Bentancur, Kulusevski, Romero and Gil all look like smart signings. I detest watching this clown play for us as much as anyone, but I’m willing to give Paratici a pass on this guy, as long he’s on the first plane out of here come the summer

Not the Paratici thread but Gil doesn’t really look a smart signing does he. £35 million (if you consider we could’ve probably got 10 for Lamela) for a player we shipped out on loan 6 months later and looks unlikely to play for spurs under conte. Yep, real smart.

Why do we only sign terrible Brazilians? And literally some of the worst technical footballers I’ve ever seen!

Seduced by the nationality. You are correct when saying the likes of Gilberto, Paulinho, Vinicis and Royal being utter shite..

He’s very highly rated in Spain though and is having a very good loan at a big club and the fans love him and want to keep him. That says enough for me for a 20 year old. Have some patience man. I agree he doesn’t look suited to the PL at this moment but we will have absolutely no trouble getting our money back and some for one of the best under 21 players in Europe, if we feel he should move on. I could definitely see him working as one of the wide CAM’s or as a central CAM in a 352 once he’s developed a little more physically for the PL, which he will, he’s only 20, not many 20 year old’s have the physical maturity for a top PL team, or the technical ability he has. I feel like there’s a real lack of patience in your thinking on this one

Is there anyway we would be better off putting Dier/Davies at RB going flat back 4 just so he doesn’t play? Dier has played there before but seems to have a good partnership with CR so wouldn’t want up mess that up and Sanchez worries me. Davies is a fucking pro so maybe he could do a job.

DK on right, Lucas left or vice versa. Yes it’s fucks our system but surely worth a go?

Anything is worth a go we just can't keep doing this, it's infuriating to watch!

I don’t really think Dier can play anywhere but CB these days. His agility and ability in tighter spaces has always been pretty poor and it’s not gotten any better over time as he’s grown as a man. He’s turned into your typical 6’2” 200 pound CB now and I feel like that’s likely the only position he can play to a high standard now

When I saw Dav coming on yesterday I thought Conte might be shifting Romero to RWB. Didn’t pan out that way but that might’ve been a better option. I think he (Romero) could Play anywhere across the back four / five as well as in midfield he’s that good.

Gomes was a good keeper for us.

He had his moments, but they weren't all that regular.

Friedel was a significant upgrade - not because his peak was higher, but because his form was far more stable and dependable.

You could always tell that Gomes was an awkward striker that became a keeper imo

We needed players to improve the team now though didn’t we. Very little point spending first team budget on players for the future at this stage of our development. Could’ve bought a first teamer for that money which might’ve helped us secure top 4. That to me would’ve been a better signing than someone we may never see.
