to think people hate trippier, now we have this doherty and this clown as rb's, be careful what you wish for

We have spent around 60m on right backs since Walker went. That figure give or tajke a few quid. Really underpins why penny pinching deals make no sense - it ends up costing more.

The impressive performances by Tanganga, meant we weren't in the market for Tomiyasu a CB/RB hybrid instead for a defensive RB

I just don't understand the logic in why we went this way.

I think with time and training he could be good.

But my fear is, that with Conte's system. Doherty on the RIGHT is a better fit than Emerson as RWB

People on here wanted him because he supposedly was an attacking right back and an improvement on Aurier, yeeeah.

If we want a more attacking rwb, we should be looking at wingers that can take on the role instead.

Depends how you define 'spent'. We made quite a bit of money on KWP and Trippier and still have Doherty and Royale, so in terms of the transfer flow on right backs, it's not so bad.

Aurier was the biggest hit - not only because was (despite fan opinion on him) actually an effective wing-back, but because he's our most expensive one (taking inflation into account) and he walked for free.

NameBoughtSoldCumulative Spend
Trippier£4.4m£19.8m-£15.4m
Aurier£22.5m£0£7.1m
Doherty£15.12m?£22.22m
Royal£22.5m?£47.72m
KWP£0£11.97m£35.75m

Surely when scouting him we could of noticed he has no pace, look how easily hudson-odoi dealt with him simply because he’s a lot quicker, add that to the fact he can’t cross and he’s never going to beat his man and contribute anything going forwards. Terrible buy.

He's a late 90's standard spurs player. To think we went from Walker and Trippier to him and Doc makes me want to put my head in a blender. We've wasted so much money in recent years.

I guess I was going with the idea that thats how much we spent trying to replace players who were far better. Rather than spending say 50m on a player to begin with who we would know would provide far better than what we have got in so far. I take your point however on the net spend and that we didnt spend 50m per se.

22/23 years old, can't speak English, been in the country 4 and a half months , probably not ultra confident in his surroundings yet , a good athletic build. Pretty Solid defensively already with little experience in the hardest league

Much to work on when on the ball , don't see he can't improve passing, crossing etc , alot of time on his side. Needs competition to push him

I still have no idea why we just terminated aurier’s contract like that … as for KWP his raw pace alone and ability on the ball is far better than what we have now , even if physically he can get over powered

Kwp was the best crosser at the club imo, the question mark was him being defensively weak in the air

yet against us he killed us beating Kane and others in the air ffs

In the latest Brazil squad for their next match.

A new right back has to happen asap or else it is more doherty

Can people stop brining up Aurier.

He didn't want to be here since about 2019 and was always worth a dodgy penalty give away.

And conceded 3 same goals against Dinamo Zagreb even though Mourinho warned him about Orsic's only move in his entire career. He was much better in attack though.

Does speaking English make crossing a ball easier? Asking for a friend.

And Trippier is getting far too much praise too. He was solid at best to begin with and had an awful last season

Hypothetical situation where we don't sign Traore and Romero was still unavailable and we're stuck with what we currently have.

I'd prefer it if we dropped Tanganga from the 11 last night, moved Emerson RCB, Doherty over to RWB and Sessegnon LWB. I think that would be us playing players more to their strengths. Emerson is 22 and he can grow as a player and it's his first season, so I think we shouldn't be beating down the door demanding he leaves but in his current iteration he just doesn't seem like a wing back to me and at RCB I think it'd suit his strengths better, Doherty for all of his faults is at least suited to RWB moreso than Emerson and I feel sorry for the guy when he's struggling as it is to play football then having to play LWB further compounds it, I'd move him to the right and see what happens. Also takes dear Japhet out the firing line who's head is clearly not right atm.

And before anyone does don't come at me with the Doherty is shit get him out of my club nonsense, I've already said this is me analysing things based on being stuck with what we currently have.
