For some reason I can see him ending up starting for us week in week out after a few months. Spence is an exciting player.
Yeah I think so too.

Think Doherty will start the season as first choice but if Spence can prove he's not a liability defensively I can see him getting a lot of minutes and becoming first choice.

Glad we are finally making some progress. The fee is supposed to be closer to £15m than £12.5m but I imagine it will be "undisclosed" so neither party looks like they caved.

I'm just glad he is finally gone and we can all move on. We need to get the bigger bits of business done.

Enjoy the Djed puns...we have a lad called Dijksteel so a new set of puns for you for another £20m if you fancy it?!

Good luck for the season!

The expectation-meter in here has jumped up several notches.

To think we could still bring in another two, so a window of:
  • Perisic
  • Forster
  • Bissouma
  • Richarlison
  • Lenglet
  • Spence
  • [AM]
  • [CB]
That's nuts mate if all 8 come off.
Total jizzfest

People need to remember that Spence is still quite raw. Loads of upside, obvs.

I can see it now: Loads of people complaining after a few bad touches because his transfer was a bit protracted.

“Is this what we waited for” etc blah.

I think he’ll be good, given time.

Will be relieved when this one gets over the line. Think we'd have regretted it had we walked away (like Maddison and Bowen).

Such a huge opportunity for Spence. Starting RWB slot in a top 6 team up for grabs. Conte and CL football. He has all of the physical attributes. Could be a Dele like rise if we're lucky!

Hopefully without the fall

Might see him against Rangers at Ibrox in just over a week.
That's what I'm thinking, he and Lenglet to come in for Rangers and Roma, same for Forster and Bissouma after missing the games in Korea. Maybe even get 1 more in next week.

He is coming in to be the 3rd RWB, so I hope people have tempered expectations.

Certainly there is hope that he can progress to a more substantial role - but its probably not happening over night.

I like his confidence though, and I'd back him to be making an impact by the time we get back from the WC break, if he keeps his head focused on what Conte is teaching him.

I agree, he needs time. It's a massive step up this young lad has taken. Much to learn for him.

He could do a Dele. Dele I dont think was expected to play as much as he did but he was a natural so im hoping Spence is the same. Games are thick and fast so im hoping cup games. But I dont expect him to play from the start of the season, simply because he is slightly behind in pre season training etc.

Honestly so relieved this is happening. I have reservations about Spence but some of the alternatives being mooted sounded really poor, and as much as i'd have accepted Emerson and Doherty considering, it would have been annoying to have strengthened everywhere apart from our weakest area.

Its been years since we had a RB who had ball carrying abilities - last was Walker.

From what little I have seen of Spence, he can carry the ball. He hogs the touch line and dribbles well to move forward. Often , tries to slows down defenders and then accelerate well of standing start. IMO, he will win lot of corners & lot of fouls edge of the box. Really looking forward to see him playing

When you consider the quality of the left flank in Perisic and Son, Spence should see alot of space to run into down the right with Deki coming inside.

Looks supremely balanced on paper and a nightmare for opposing managers to counteract.
