Great bloke, and he went up a lot in my estimations with how he handled being booed by the home fans. But the bottom line is he just isn’t good enough with the ball, and he just makes too many unforced errors. In a less intense league he will probably be very good. A mutual parting of the ways is best for all concerned and I’ll wish him all the best

Will wish him well once he leaves, he needs to rebuild his career and confidence somewhere else.

His confidence is shot by lack of game time, then he gets some game time and our fans boo him for the errors he makes.

Let’s be honest, he’s a good defender without the ball for the most part but his positioning is suspect at times and he’s pretty awful with the ball at his feet. He’s a good physical presence, (with decent pace) but on too many occasions the lack of confidence in himself really showed itself in a negative way.

Good luck to the lad on his next move, he won’t live long in my memory purely because his career at Tottenham has been somewhat ‘vanilla’

Completely agree. Good bloke who gave his all, just wasn't quite up to it unfortunately. Considering the abuse he got at home & the fact that he knew he was off this summer, i have huge respect for him making himself available for the last few games when we needed him - could easily have cried off with a fake injury. I wish him well wherever he goes.

He needed a senior player to play alongside and learn from - Vertonghen was perfect, Alderweireld also very good... But as they got older and struggled with injuries we didn't have anyone else available to provide the leadership in defence.

in its absence, he struggled, played fewer games, was often rusty when he did play, and never kicked on from a promising start. He had the odd game where he looked great (the home matches vs City and Arsenal last season, from memory) but he didn't convince Mourinho, Nuno or Conte to pick him regularly.

Can't fault his effort, but for his own career's sake it makes sense for him to move on.

Definitely. Didn’t help that we sat back and invited pressure either. It got all our defenders nervous and really exposed their weaknesses. If we’d been able to retain possession and play a little higher up I think he would have been better. Still time to go.

100% agree with this.

I think there was a player in there when we bought him but his confidence has taken an battering and the style of play hasn't suited him at all.

Time to go for everyone's benefit.

Wish him well, seemed like a nice bloke.

Much Better defender than Dier was or ever will be. As other ls have stated, he has struggled due to not having an experienced good center half who can play the ball beside him.

Truth is it’s past “the right time to go”. We should have sold him 2 years ago when I think Sevilla were interested in him.

I’ll be honest after his first 18 months I didn’t rate him, but definitely earned my respect this season after the way he was treated by so called “fans”.

Good luck Dav

I remember watching him next to de ligt in that europa league final and thinking he was pretty bad. We then signed him. Sums up our horrendous scouting since then to a tee.

He had offers last summer didn’t he? I bet he wish he’d had taken one of those now in hindsight. Happy to move him on asap. How much would we get for him. £15 million?

We’ll do well to get that much imo. If he’s only got one year left I’m not sure we’ll be able to get double digit millions.

The subbing of him after being subbed on was brutal professionally and personally I hate the booing, but each to their own.

He was not the player we thought we were buying, not even close. Even that is more on the club, for not doing their proper homework on him.

His touch has been consistently poor since the start and got comically bad towards the end, when his confidence was shot.

With all that said, it needs balancing with the fact he is reportedly on £65k a week and has earnt roughly £20m from the club in his 6 years here.

This is the game.

Reports here in Brazil say that he has been offered to Flamengo and would be open to the move but Flamengo have other priorities first.

Find it a bit strange though as they won't be spending 20m on any player.

Would Flamengo have any player of interest to us? A player in each direction seems like the only way this transfer would be even possible.

I might be imagining it but I think we might have been linked to their CM Gerson in the past

Well I'd be shocked if anyone would spend anywhere near that on him.

Gerson has been in Europe twice and not cut it.

Hes been to Marseille since we were linked.

Only one who may be PL ready or even close to it is Matheus França and I dont think he is good enough yet for us or a position we need.

Victor Hugo could have a big future but I dont think he is ready yet and we already have Sarr/Bissouma.

De Arrascaeta is a good player but no way Flamengo swap him for a centre back.
