Such a shame, he was absolutely amazing in first season. We were playing a style that allowed him to use his physical gifts in terms of speed and strength. And gave him multiple passing options on the ball, so minimised his weakness.

Once mourinho came in - a manager who had already called him a weak spot at Ajax when Man U played them in the europa league final - and we started playing defensive, reactrive football it seems Sanchez's confidence fell off a cliff and never really recovered. Not helped one bit by our idiotic fans booing him.
He had two magnificent passers around him in Toby and Jan, and he had Mousa to dump the ball to when he panicked. Once those things faded away, his deficiencies were laid bare pretty brutally.

I think this is a bit of Ndombele syndrome where during the first season everyone says, “he’ll be ok next season once he’s got used to the league”, and when he gets even worse people say “he did have a good first season though”.

People were very complimentary about him after one particular game on the page you linked to. But you only have to go forward a couple of pages until a litany of mistakes begins to unfold.

In my opinion, Sanchez has always been a strangely weak player. Given his size, I’ve always been amazed that he seems to lose every physical battle he’s been involved in since he joined the club. It’s like he never managed to figure out how to use his body position to his advantage.

However you guys cut the cake....Dier is way worse than Sanchez (for Ange's style of football) and Phillips is untried

Profit over points again then. Good luck Dav hope you do well.

Surprised theres no movement on Lloris or Dier. As most others are noting we need a lot of luck no to pick up an injury or suspension as the drop off is gonna be collosal.

He had a disastrous time at Lyon and was also fined around £1 million for beating the mother of his daughters. No thanks.

Jeez

"Boateng told the court his former partner had become aggressive and insulting during a dispute after a game of cards. He said she hit him and injured his lip, and that she fell when he tried to push her away. He disputed throwing a lantern at her, but said it fell when he threw a cushion at a table. Boateng said he had never hit his ex-girlfriend.

Senler later told the court that Boateng punched her in the kidney so hard that she found it difficult to breathe. She said he tore at her hair, bit her head, and pressed his thumb into her eye, giving her a black eye. She said that that particular incident on July 19, 2018 was not the first of its kind, but the most violent"

And that pretty much sums things up.

Dier's best position always was as a quasi DM, not a CB. Problem is, there's no demand for his services at this club - even as DM - nowadays. The style of the new regime and the game in general has simply passed him by. Brutal, yet true.

P.S. I initially misread the above post, thinking it said "However you cut the coke".

Totally agree with u, he plays best just in front of the back 4. he gets caught out at least once a game, makes my heart skip a beat.... in a bad way. :ROFLMAO:

As a leader and passer and ball carrier, he isn't too bad. but he doesn't have recovery pace to keep up with today's game.

i am sad to see Sanchez go... i really felt he was the next King. but he really didn't improve during the time he was with us. a good defender, but didn't become "world class"

Managers and playing styles make players.
The
I'd love to know if there was something that went down in his personal life or something that hit his confidence, because whilst I'm sure he is going to be remembered as a bit of a joke and a poor signing, what people forget is just how good he was in his first season. I thought we had the next Ledley on our hands:

Take a look at the early pages of this very thread - https://www.spurscommunity.co.uk/index.php?threads/player-watch-davinson-sanchez.129901/page-24

He was so good after his first season that he earned himself a new six year deal, but it was so sad to see him get progressively worse and worse from the moment he signed it. Every time it seemed like he was improving and starting to fulfil his potential then he'd drop an absolute howler and the fans would get on his back again.

Good luck to him - seemed like a good bloke, although in all honesty I'm glad that I'll never have to watch him play in defence for us again.

The sign of a good defender is staying on their feet. The opening of that video has him sliding in on every tackle.

And there are more skeletons in his closet than this.

His last kick for the club was his missed penalty at Fulham, which pretty much sums up his time here - brave to step up but ultimately failed.

good luck to him, he never hid and always tried.

There are also many occasions in they video where a top tier defender would gain control of the ball and, instead, Sanchez performs a sort of sliding tackle/pass hybrid.

For example, given that this is supposed to be a video highlighting some of his best moments, would you expect his next touch in the still below to be a slide tackle? (spoiler: it is)

Jose killed Davison’s confidence, he’s never been the same since.

Top bloke, hope he’s doing well.
I’m sorry, I’ve never had an issue with his effort or attitude. But, I cannot believe a player who takes two touches to control the ball could have come through Ajax. This is not a recent case of confidence but something that has happened since he’s been at the club. I would love for it to have worked out but he simply was not reliable enough.
