I think the sad thing is he spent his whole career here and will probably only feel bitter about Spurs in the end.

Regardless whether he has played up the last couple of years whilst obviously going through mental health struggles i hold Spurs to a higher standard and would expect a lot more class from us regarding his departure.

disappointed.

How were we supposed to handle the departure of a player who repeatedly criticised his employer, his manager and his colleagues in public and then, after burning all bridges with everyone at the club, declined the available opportunities to leave?

I always rated him as a player, but he made his own bed, so it's difficult to feel sorry for him. He has been paid £60k p.w. (more than most of us earn in a year) to do sweet FA.

Underneath the stance Danny Rose is a good person. The impression I get was Levy trying to wash his hands off Rose Rose standing on principle or maybe stubbornness.

I feel he deserves a thank you from the club for his services.

The club currently has two thank yous published on the website:

From the club's combined Rose/Gazzaniga announcement: "We thank Danny and Paulo for their service and wish them well for the future."

From a club article dedicated to Rose: "As we say thank you to Danny for his service"...followed by a gallery of his Spurs career in photos.

Does this not count? Considering he has been paid millions of pounds for not playing during the final year of his contract, he's hardly going to get a leaving bonus. ?

Nice to see that the club have given him a proper video now (just seen it on Facebook).
Says he really enjoyed working with the youngsters this season and he may well come back to do it again, when he's finished playing.
Levy was decent with him too, offering him any help he may need and saying he's welcome back anytime.

We don’t know the ins and outs Spurs seem pretty good on player welfare tbh

Jan Vertonghen and Vorm got personal watches from the club and a nice thank you....Rose came via Leeds and through our development programme.

This argument oh he got millions for not playing is real stupidity seriously dumb. Rose didn't refuse his services to the club in fact cited he wasn't given enough time to play into form.

Happy to see Rose going on good terms. He’s been a great servant for the club, I wish him the best of luck for the remaining of his career and would love to see him back at the club eventually.

Can't believe he was with the club for 14 years. Feels less than that. Forgot we signed him as a 16 year old. Really hope whatever he does next he is happy. He's had his personal demons as we all know. Good luck Danny boy.

I may be mistaken, but the Jan and Vorm send-off seemed to be less normal than Rose's. A fancy watch is traditionally a gift for someone when they retire at a company after long service, not when they simply move on. Even if that's not the case, I don't recall Jan or Vorm publicly slating the club, complaining that they'd never heard of new teammates (how welcoming!), or causing unrest in the squad.

With 1.5 years remaining on his contract, Rose announced that he wouldn't agree to a transfer or loan deal but also wouldn't be signing a new contract. That obstinacy isn't the sort of behaviour that warrants a huge send-off.
When Jose brought Rose back into the starting XI a few months later, for the second half of the 2019-20 season, I was hoping that meant Rose had changed his mind. As that wasn't the case, Jose must have been desperate.

Rose had been with the club for pretty much half his life. He grew up into an adult on our books, he has/had mental health issues that should not be dismissed. Whatever he did right or wrong in that time, he showed the passion on the pitch, was part of the best pairing of fullbacks during the finale season at WHL and in all honesty I don't think he said anything that we as fans were not thinking at the time. He spent longer with us than most do or ever will in modern football. He at least deserves acknowledgement of that.

How you end your tenure is always going to impact on your send-off, irrespective of anything that happened before.

Rose was with us aged 17-30. By your logic, Sol Campbell deserved a nice send-off for being with the club aged 14-27 and being our star player...the nature of his departure meant there was no way that would happen though.

Sol went to Arsenal for free. Rose spent this season helping with the youth teams. See a difference?

Of course the two scenarios were different, but both players did something negative that tarnished their Spurs career in a way that few will easily forget.

9 years of getting on with his football
2.5 years moaning, criticising teammates, the manager and the owners, and causing unrest
8-10 months supporting youth development

Whatever our personal feelings are towards Rose and his tenure at the club, that negative 2.5 years happened and his recent work with the youth team doesn't change that. The one thing that would have cancelled it out is if he'd earned his place back, signed a new contract and kept his head down (which I was really hoping he'd do once Jose brought him back into the team in Jan 2019).

While he's rubbed some people up the wrong way, I'll have nothing but respect for Danny Rose and look back fondly on a period of time when he was one of the best LBs in the league.

I'll always admire his outspoken nature, even when he said things I disagreed with. At least he was honest.

Why would you get that impression? He can't tell the manager to play him or register him if he Poch/Mourinho didn't want to. It's not like he's been exiled from the club as a whole tbh.

Lovely interview that was and very pleasing that the club acknowledged what a fantastic servant Danny has been for us. I have nothing but love and respect for the man after all he’s done for Tottenham Hotspur. Yes he was outspoken, but he only said what all of us fans were thinking and I’m sure most of the squad and even Poch at the time agreed. I hope he is still able to play at the top level and that he gets a good move to Brentford or similar in the Prem to end his playing days

The fact that he was cast aside from a playing perspective and still took it upon himself to be a mentor for the kids in the academy shows what a top quality bloke he is. I’d love to see him back in a coaching capacity in the future as he’s proper Spurs.

Danny, thanks for the fantastic memories - you’re still the best left back I’ve seen play for us in my lifetime and I wish you all the best for for the future. ?

A true warrior and winner. Always gave his all and wanted us to progress. I don’t think it will ever come out what happened behind closed doors but the guy only wanted us to succeed.
