By far the best option in the current squad, ahead of the other three mentioned.

Going to mix it up but Son has played there a few times in the LWB position but played high and we have stretched the back 3 wide... happened a few times last season so Verts almost played as a LB

I wake up in the middle of the night in a cold sweat screaming "No Sonny...No!" thinking of Poch's decision to play Son at LWB against Chelsea in the FA Cup semi final. I maintain that we would've won that game if he hadn't tried to be a maverick.

My missus is just like "...but we don't have a son".

Playing our best cb out of position. No thanks.
I never said it would be ideal, I just said that he's a good option at LB too if really necessary.

God, this thread is nuts, everyone's knickers are massively twisted about something that they have no idea if it's even happening or not. I'd bet my life that this time last year at least 75% of you were screaming for Rose to be shot out of a cannon after his big interview anyway.

Son playing LWB was the reason we lost that Semi Final to Chelsea.

Are we really debating shoving our best defender or Son to LB so we can sell Rose? We're trying to win trophies here, not weaken the squad. Besides, the top argument from most about why they are happy to sell Toby is that he's not really needed anyway (not something I agree with btw, but whatever). Having to shove Verts to fullback completely blows that argument out of the water.

I can't see anyone paying a huge fee for Rose, and even if they did, money in the bank isn't as valuable on the pitch as having the players unless the club are in the position to replace with an equivalent or better player.

Not having impact players off the bench was the reason we lost that game. Chelsea brought on Hazard and Costa which completely turned the game, we were controlling it before that at 2-2.

Son's tackle was a one off incident.

I am not sure Rose or even Davies could handle Mbappe convincingly. Evidence suggests in last 1.5 years, Rose is nowhere his level of Dec 2016. We already have Davies as no1 who has been solid & consistent for us in that position. What we need is a 2nd left back or LWB who can challenge Davies. Georgiou looks very good going forward. Last night game he was again impressive. Numerous time, he dribbled well past defenders - attimes even beat 2 Milan players on outside and got away with the ball. Defensively, he needs to tighten up.

We have the full back whisperer in Poch :) who does his magic on almost every full back he coached. So, am sure he could make Georgiu defensively better.

I would trust Georgiou, Aurier, KWP all share the 2nd left back duty. If we sell Rose, we could invest it elsewhere in squad.
Totally agree with this.

Im not very concernd over Rose, if we sell him I bet there will be someone to replace him I just dont want Verts there.

Just like last year when Walker left, people seem to want the club to cut corners, in order to save money for the latest attacking play toy. Not having a proper back up left back would be suicidal and no amount of argument for a right back, centre back or winger to play there, will convince me personally.

In my mind we will never win trophies if we have to sell players and leave ourselves short in order to raise funds for other players in different areas. Seems to me a lot of fans forget it takes one instant for an injury to hit. I could understand if KWP was a genuine LB, but fullbacks need to play on their correct side imo.

Also, how much football do all our full backs play? Aurier and Trippier got a lot of minutes, whilst I'm sure Poch would like to have rotated Davies more, based on previous seasons.

None of the options could be regular cover, when we go through that October/November spell of playing different full backs Wednesday/Saturday/Wednesday, therefore they aren't good enough (not denying they could give it a shot in an emergency).

Luckily the talk is Rose only leaves if replacement comes.

I can't really see the logic in selling Rose unless its as a make way for one of our top targets in a different position. Davies has the LB spot pretty nailed down so selling our back up to get a top target and then getting a younger new back up on the cheap is the only thing that really makes sense to me. Otherwise it just seems a little foolish to me.

Aurier played 1 game in LB. That was home against Liverpool which we won 4-1.
Don't underestimate our secondary full backs.
And from memory he actually shackled Salah pretty well, despite Salah scoring their goal. I found it odd that more teams didn't try sticking a right-footed full back on Salah to prevent him cutting inside.

If memory serves me right I remember some rumbles about Aurier playing left back at the time because of his pace so it would nullify Liverpool and Salahs counter attack.

Was Davies & Rose injured or not available at the time? I honestly can't remember but I do recall talk of Aurier being best pace wise to square up to Salah on our left hand side
