Don’t agree with that at all, those goals weren’t down to Lenglet. First one down to Kulu, Skipp and Bissouma having a snooze and then Davies not closing down. Second down to Kane losing possessio and Davies totally losing his man.

Rio Ferdinand blamed him on the 2nd for not reacting quick enough, not recognising danger and knowing that his teammate was always going to lose in that situation. A quicker reaction and he would have been able to prevent the goal.

Would rather not sign Lenglet and bring in 3 CBs.

Get Ndicka on a Free, someone quality and Nathan Wood from Swansea, who has 1 year left on his contract. I wonder if Swansea would be tempted in a swap deal with Rodon.
Ndicka is anything but free. In Jan, his agents were asking 10m agent fee, 15m signon fee to him and a 5 year contract worth 50m eur. This is why not many clubs have not gone for him yet.

Apparently he has massively reduced his demands to the point Roma are close to signing him.

Whilst he didnt make any glaring errors he was slow in covering in 2 of the goals. Didnt impose himself at all defensively on the game, and its Brentford at home without their best Striker.

Can honestly say, much like Dier since he moved to CB that I've never seen him put in a dominant display in any game.

With Lenglet, we will need to give him some cover for his slowness. Having Sanchez & Davies around him and judging him isnt right. Through out this season , Lenglet been the most consistent defender, even consistent than Romero. You know what you are going to get with him. We know his weakness but if you set up the team & organise team correctly, he can give same 8/10 game after game.

Given we are out of Europe, I dont mind Lenglet buy. We just need to get the organisation right. We have far bigger problems in backline than Lenglet - GK is primary importance. I would rather pay high for a quality GK who can transform way we build up & attack

If the offensive players were better at defense then the situations could have been avoided.

However the defender's job is to handle these threats but the combo of Lenglet/Davies failed not once but twice; they were carbon copy goals.

Lenglet would be a decent squad signing ‘if’ we play Udogie or ‘another’ LB signing who has pace.

The main issue with signing Lenglet is if we do actually revert to a back 4 we’re going to need a new first choice LCB which means we would then have:

New LCB
Lenglet
Davies

We’re going to have to sell Davies which I can’t see happening despite him being not good enough at either LCB or LB.

In which case we should be all over that. Problem is, people will all start wailing that Levy is signing players off his own back again.

If we sign him then it is just standard Levy all over again. We shouldnt be signing average squad fillers like this as this is exactly why we find ourselves in this position.

Poster boy for Levy transfer business… “you want Bastoni? Nah how about a bang average cheaper alternative who played for Barcelona surely that means he’s decent?!”

27 years old coming on loan at downward trajectory is well, the complete opposite of poster boy for Levy transfer business.

He's not wrong though...
Lenglet has not convinced me at all during his loan spell. I'd pass on making his move permanent...
I mean that’s not what the real point of the post is. You can say all of that, and you just have, without needlessly digging.

You can but you probably shouldn't?

A large part of our issue this season has been defence. Now you can apportion blame where you like and I think plenty should go towards Conte but he is a cheap signing because we couldn't sign a decent centre back so Levy not backing the manager again is very much a factor here.

And since coming he has been bang average at best. We have enough average players we can't get off the books , signing another one on big wages before you even have a manager or DOF in place doesn't scream that things have changed does it?

You seem to be arguing that we ought to buy him yet you start your post with "we will need to give him some cover for his slowness".
From that starting point I'd make the opposite argument.

Barcelona-based paper SPORT reporting that Lenglet will join Spurs permanently next week.

Hmmmm

They seem quite desperate to get rid of him, so could be bollocks.

Like us they need the wages off the books. I'd be amazed and appalled if we signed him.

He's ok but will just be another big earner who isn't quite good enough. I'd much rather sign a youngster for that squad role.

Affordable but too slow for a high line and not good enough.

Only way this makes any sense at all is if we want to use him as a cheap backup squad LCB cos atm we basically have none.

Would prefer him to Dier/Sanchez/Tanganga I guess but would be a compromise signing rather than what we need long term.
