Better hope he does not get called up by Brazil for the WC qualifiers. According to Vickery on talkshite yesterday it will mean he will have to isolate for 2 weeks upon return. Not just him, South American’s, as the same sort of protection for squads is not in place, nor is planned.

What are work permit rules concerning footballers? He didn't get a work permit last year for wolves, so what wil have changed?

Perhaps Levy has a mole in the Home Office !!

Carlos Vinicius born in Jesus das Selvas Brazil which according to Google translate in English is " Jesus of the Jungles " wow!! , no language problems as Jose can have a word in Portuguese with him.

It's so silly that Dier's not homegrown. The whole rule is there to make sure teams have english players in their squads. ?

It is impossible with EU freedom of movement laws to say a person must have priority for a job because he has English nationality. So it’s done as club trained. Dier was largely brought up in Portugal and club trained at Sporting Lisbon.

so when we employed Jose Mourinho we also employed Jorge Mendes, a 2 for 1 sort of deal.

Not bad business, i am liking this a lot

There is something so weird about all these agent deals. I'm not actually suggesting any sort of illegality just the way it "feels". Like we're in some movie about a small shop owner in brooklyn in the 1970's borrowing some money. :playful:

It's a fantastic deal though.

With Vinicius being added to the wage bill , where is all the money coming from with the loss of income from non attendance, someone has to be leaving, has to be Dele to balance the books.

Interesting that majority of our business this year have either been with Mourinho's previous clubs, or with Portuguese links (Mendes)
  • Reguillon + Bale (Madrid)
  • Doherty (Mendes link)
  • Carlos Vinicius (Mendes link)
  • Milan Skiriniar (Inter )
Exception- Hojbjerg & Hart

The first club Mourinho managed was... Benfica.

Loan rules. I asked this a few weeks ago and someone pointed out the last sentence.

Loans between Premier League clubs and other English counterparts are officially called temporary transfers.

Under the rules in the Premier League Handbook 2019/20 (Download PDF, size: 20.8MB), there are restrictions on how many players Premier League clubs can loan from other Premier League/English clubs.

They are:
- Premier League clubs may not register more than two players on loan at any one time.
- The maximum number of loans registrable in the same season is four, and, under no circumstances, shall more than one be from the same club at any one time.
- Premier League clubs cannot loan to another Premier League club a player they have acquired in the same transfer window.
- A Premier League club may loan not more than one of its goalkeepers to another Premier League club.

With the exception of Welsh clubs competing in the competitions listed under Rule V.6.2, loans from a club in membership of another National Association do not count towards the above quotas.

Apparently, RTP in Portugal has said it's done, 3 million euro loan fee, 42 million euro option to buy. IF someone can confirm, that would help, because I can't.

Amazing deal if correct. Got to feel sorry for Benfica fans if it happens at that level. I guess if you dance with the devil though, you’ll get what’s coming to you. That probably goes for us too later down the line if we aren’t careful. Although I do wonder if we took Gedson in January as part of getting this guy this summer.

If he joins us let’s give him a fucking chance yeah. Let’s not turn him into another Postiga, Soldado or Janssen and moan about him from day one when he doesn’t bang in a ten minute hat trick.

He’ll be coming from another league with only one season of high level goal scoring behind him. He’ll take time to get used to the league and won’t be playing regularly enough to build up a rhythm.

He just needs a goal early doors really, even if it's a deflection off arse - Soldado and Jansen especially saw their confidence levels fall week after week because they couldn't just buy a goal.

I still maintain had Janssen put in that half chance against Everton it the similar one against Palace that things would of been different for him.

Can we pin this somewhere so we don't have someone telling us we cant have more than 2 loans every time a loan to buy is mentioned?

Jose is a great hype man when he needs to be. This guy will play a lot in Europe right off the bat, that's a great opportunity to settle in.

It's a fantastic deal though.

The system has always been ripe for exploitation, and Benfica and Mendes are particularly well placed due to Portuguese clubs being more easily able to sign Brazilian players.

Benfica have done fantastic business over the last decade or so, acting as a stepping stone for players moving onto bigger clubs after impressing there - and Mendes is deeply entrenched in that business.

Just in the last few seasons they’ve sold Joao Felix, Ruben Dias, Ederson, Raul Jimenez, Nelson Semedo and Victor Lindelof - £300 million in just on those alone in the last 3 or 4 years.
