He knows he’s not playing well, but he still gets into positions to create and score chances. Always the sign of a good playrr

Anyone know his goals per minute for us this season compared to last season.

A quick Wiki search suggests he score 1 in 4 last season and 1 in 6 this season but I'm pretty sure he has come on as a sub or been subbed more for us.

Very happy he scored, and fair play to Ange as I don’t see Kulu being at the back post to score that. Nevertheless, I still think it was the wrong decision to bring Johnson on for Kulu at that point in time. He had just created the chance for Sarr and was having a growing influence on the match. We definitely lost momentum at that point.

Glad it all worked out but could easily have gone wrong.

He's been thrust into the limelight. Many of our previous coaches would have held him back for months. He's dealt with it well and there's definitely way more to come.

He's played 1,068 minutes for us, so just under 12 full matches worth of minutes.

3 goals and 4 assists.

We still haven't really been playing down the channels for Johnson or Werner. They're not really players to drop backwards to take the ball on facing towards our goal. Son and Kulusevski are better at that. There's a number of times where their body shape is set up for the forward run and we play into them and the opposition pounces. We need to adjust to who is out wide. If it's Werner or Johnson they want longer balls to run onto. If it's Son or Kulusevski they'll show for it inside a bit more.

Great for Johnson to get the winner today. Hopefully it gives him the confidence he seems to be lacking. I see similarities to Dele in that the deeper he gets the worse he is but get him into the final third and he's so dangerous. You want him working on instincts with not too much time on the ball. I still feel we're learning about eachother this season and having so many injuries and players in and out is taking longer.

Delighted for him to score such a big goal. Thought it was an extremely strange decision by Ange to take Kulusevski off as he was dictating the game and Brighton couldn't handle him at all. Bringing Johnson on against tiring legs is generally a good thing but after Deki went off we completely lost any semblance of control. There's no denying Johnson was extremely poor apart from his goal, he gives the ball away so easily and can be a non entity in physical challenges, but he won us the game with a great arrive and finish. Hopefully he can find some confidence from this and offer more in general play than what he is currently.

1 goal every 367 mins last year and 1 goal every 356 mins for us this year.

Also, 1 goal or assist every 152 mins this year for us but every 267 mins.

Nobody knows what would have transpired if Kulu had stayed on. Although I accept that he had just begun to be unplayable for their defence there are no guarantees. Seven days ago he showed poor judgement and passed up the opportunity to run the ball to the corner and retain possession, ultimately this led to him giving away a stupid free kick which cost us two points in stoppage time, today he made way for Brennan who scored and gained us two points in stoppage time.

This is a good point. I'm sure it's happened but I'm struggling to think of many occasions where Deki is sliding in at the far post but Johnson has done that twice in three games and it's clear from what he's said that we are working on that in training.

I don't know what more he can do for some of our fanbase to see something in him? He seems to contribute with a goal or an assist even when he isn't full of confidence. Saw someone in the match thread say it was like he wasn't even trying.. I'm sorry.. what in the actual fuck is that take? If he wasn't trying he wouldn't be busting a gut to get in at the back post to score the winner open goal or not. He still had to finish it. You just know if the keeper saved it or he missed in some way the same "fans" would be laughing their asses off being "right".

I can see why some may think he's not trying as when a full back runs past him he does the bare minimum to track them. (and often less) you say about busting a gut to get to that back post, i'd like to see the same gut busting to get back when Porro is left 2 Vs 1...

Also a few passes into him today where he didn't even try as his marker got ahead of him.

I like the fact he brings something different in he's a more direct option with a bit of pace on either side but for me he looks unfit.

Pleased for him (and us) if he keeps on scoring though...

He was abysmal today. Until he got on the end of Sonny’s cross in the last minute & became a hero.

Yeah he was terrible in his general play when he came on. Was caught on his heels several times and didn’t offer himself to the ball at all. We badly missed Deki when he came off as he’d started to play and had just created the equaliser.

That said all credit to Johnson for gambling and making that run to the far post. Should really help his confidence 👍🏻🙏🏻
