I’m surprised Brentford haven’t tried one last time for him after Bakayoko fell through. Have they been looking at someone else? We seem to be the only interested party and they want/need to sell it seems so pretty likely this happens really.

I like him, would add something different to our attack and can cover RW and ST which given we are not in europe or likely any cups would just about give us enough attacking depth at least until January if nothing else.

This has to get done we can't not be signing another attacking player, we also need a CB as well as this, bare minimum today.

Some more positive sounds this morning fingers, toes etc crossed for a positive end to what was until now a fairly well planned out positive summer for our club.

It’s clear that outgoings are holding us back.

I also think the club isn’t in any rush to get Johnson over the line. No one in here was particular gagging for him to join either, with most saying it’d be fine if the deal is right.

But now it’s dragged on for a few weeks everyone is losing their mind.

Some cynical people may say that is the clubs strategy so he becomes a more appealing signing.

Why are we the only big team interested if he's that good? Even Everton, Villa, West Ham not sniffing around?
Chelsea have literally been linked with him all summer as well. Also why do people still come out with this shit every summer, who else was fucking interested in Bissouma and Bentancur?

I think this will be the only deal today. Call me optimistic, but I think we're giving Richarlison time to hit his stride if he hasn't by Jan, I expect us to be looking at striker options. Until then, we'll go with Richarlison/son up top.

SAMI MOKBEL: Brennan Johnson to Spurs to go down to the wire
Tottenham have communicated to Nottingham Forest that they want to lock in a couple of outgoings before submitting an improved offer for Brennan Johnson, who is still attracting interest from Brentford and one other Premier League club.
Spurs have already made one offer of around £40m that has been turned down by Forest.
Ange Postecoglou's side are leaving it late for Johnson, with this one expected to run close to the deadline.

Huge amount of money for a guy who’s career stalled when he stepped up to the Prem

Should have ripped it up last season if he was going to become ‘a player’

Hope I’m proved wrong and obviously wish him all the best if he comes but to compare him to Mane is well wide of the mark

Mane looked the real deal at Southampton and he turned out to be exactly that at Liverpool. Absolutely fantastic, world class player

I'd be lying if I said I wasn't underwhelmed by Johnson but my hope is that this is one of those data driven signings that I can't appreciate yet, so it's my ignorance rather than a bad signing. I've said before, I feel he lacks some bite but I actually, for all of Saka's quality, before Arsenal turned the corner, wondered whether he was too nice to play for Liverpool but would fit in at Man City, where Pep seems to really prosper with players who seem soft hearted. Nothing wrong with being soft hearted but on a football pitch, you do want players who will be assertive and stand up for themselves, Salah and Mane had that bit about them. In any event, it hasn't done Saka any harm thus far and I never expected his finishing to get as good as it has, my hope is Johnson improves in a similar fashion to Saka.
