I had him in my starting line up with Pav yesterday so i'm happy that he delivered a good game and finally a goal.
He was very good...but too crawl at someones feet for scoring one goal and having a good game is a bit too much. Come back when he can string a few good games together......and scores some more goals.
Crouch is our most consistent striker. He consistently delivers what he is supposed to, to the team. Every single game, home or away, Crouch turns up and sees on average three to four times as much ball as Defoe. He made six less accurate passes than Huddlestone last night.
Football is a team game and it doesn't matter who scores as long as the team scores and wins. With Crouch in our team we retain possession better and more chances are made and less ball is given away than by Defoe or Pav (or Keane) which means that the opposition are less likely to score as well.
I'm really pleased he scored the goal that took us into the CL, because for me, he's been an unsung hero of this campaign. Vastly under rated and completely misunderstood by many.
Because he is dog shit.
Crouch scored the first goal of our strikers from open play since the Sunderland game when he also scored.
He will go down in Spurs history for that goal too and rightly so.
He was quality last night, but IMO he hasn't shown that desire enough this season. I'm not saying Pav has when he clearly hasn't, but one great game for Crouch doesn't put him head and shoulders above the rest... no pun intended.
As we played with 2 wide players last night it wouldn't have made any sense to "hoof" the ball to Crouch. Our system worked better for Crouch himself last night and the team as a whole.
1) dont really rate him that highly, didnt when we bought him, still dont today. but ive never said once this season he should be sold, great option to have from the bench
but not a starting striker for me, 2) causes to much long ball footy to be played, and lacks the upper body strength most times, played great last night mind!
Credit to the man last night. Showed he can use his feet and hold off players. Well done Crouchy!
The point I would add is that Crouch is also a major asset defensively, particularly at set pieces. He's not only good at it, he's very responsible and always does his job in our box. Against Stoke away, I lost count of the number of clearances he made, including quite a few of Delap's notorious throws.
He did the same again last night.
On set pieces into both boxes, we were able to set out an array of tall, generally mobile men: King, Dawson, Kaboul, Crouch, Huddlestone, Pavlyuchenko, even Bale on one or two occasions. That's why we did so well from our own set pieces. It was a nightmare for City's defence every time we put a free kick or corner into the box (and the deliveries were pretty good, too).
There's more to a tall striker's game than just winning knock-downs and scoring goals.
