Well done Crouchy!! I've liked him for a long time - especially after his hatrick against Arsenal - and he's a wonderful player to have as one of your four strikers. Fingers crossed he gets his chance for England this summer.

I had him in my starting line up with Pav yesterday so i'm happy that he delivered a good game and finally a goal.

He was very good...but too crawl at someones feet for scoring one goal and having a good game is a bit too much. Come back when he can string a few good games together......and scores some more goals.

or when we resign Darren Bent? Yes he should score more goals, but if he did he would be at a much better club. Those of us who rate him know what he can do and what he cannot, and his net benefit is indisputable. He helps the team and that is invaluable. He does jobs other strikers cannot or choose not to because in the cases of Defoe and to a lesser extent Pav, they want to score too much. You need a good mix of both players and both are to be appreciated.

The bloke can finish and he can miss sitters. So can Defoe and Pav, the fact is Crouch is, yes, a less adroit at finishing than those two but a lot of the time he makes space, he collects the ball, he occupies defenders so that those players can score.

I don't think any of our five strikers can play on their own, but the only one that I would be ok with is Crouch for those very reasons- as long as we had a better goal scoring midfielder to support him.

What Spurs Bear is asking is for people not to suck his dick but just sayt the words 'I was wrong' and give credit. I was wrong re Pav, he has continued to be a good finisher but also worked hard and looked silky on the ball. All those ridiculing Crouch (and Harry), ie you, could just do the same. End of day we are football fans, our enthusiasm doesn't match our judgement or expertise otherwise we would be in that very profession.

Two side of Crouch (and teams playing with crouch) the long ball and flick to Defoe V 3 Defenders was bad and then the controlling an awkard ball, getting space when marked tightly and finding a CM with a simple pass was very good.

Funnlily enough the BAD stuff was vital to how Man city decided to defdne agasint us which helped him when he/we did the good stuff. Tactially, i thought we used the Bad well to make the good more effective late on.

Crouch is our most consistent striker. He consistently delivers what he is supposed to, to the team. Every single game, home or away, Crouch turns up and sees on average three to four times as much ball as Defoe. He made six less accurate passes than Huddlestone last night.

Football is a team game and it doesn't matter who scores as long as the team scores and wins. With Crouch in our team we retain possession better and more chances are made and less ball is given away than by Defoe or Pav (or Keane) which means that the opposition are less likely to score as well.

I'm really pleased he scored the goal that took us into the CL, because for me, he's been an unsung hero of this campaign. Vastly under rated and completely misunderstood by many.

Crouch would get my vote for Spurs striker of the season .

Defoe and Pav are streaky and their work rate needs to improve if we are to win things . Defoe is a small guy and should be able to run around more than he does towards the end of matches .

Still not sure what our best striker partnership is .

I expect we will keep Defoe and Crouch but if we could keep only one it would have to be Crouch .

Crouch scored the first goal of our strikers from open play since the Sunderland game when he also scored.
He will go down in Spurs history for that goal too and rightly so.

Because he is dog shit.

I had to crack a smile at the "adebayor, adebayooooooor... he used to take coach trips, but not anymoooooore"

Evil, insensitive, downright disgusting.... but in the moment, it did make me chuckle.

Before the game City had an opera singer singing Nessun Dorma to big screen clips from City's win over Gillingham (the huge crescendo dropping just as Dickov smashed the ball into the top right hand corner). Maybe we'll have that for Crouchy in 10 years time :-D

I've had my doubts over Crouch. Not over his ability, because i've always rated him. But because I felt he isn't the right type of player for us. When he plays like he did last night though, he is an excellent player for us. I think we should keep him for sure, because there are a number of teams who struggle against him, and they will in the Champions League.

It all comes down to how we use him. We used him well last night, and hopefully we can do it more often. He is great for England, and last nights performance was just like his international form.

Peter Crouch is a decent player and works bloody hard. Ungainly because of his height but puts in so much graft. Unlike Pav he can be relied upon to always give 100% if things not going his way.
We have tended to hoof it too much with him in the team but that isnt his fault and we can learn it is useful as an option but not as the only tactic.
I think he deserves to be appreciated. Some Spurs fans have given him a hard time he doesn't deserve- like at Wigan.
He deserves his own song too. SuperPav fair enough but Peter must be thinking what the hell he has to do to get his name sung.

He was quality last night, but IMO he hasn't shown that desire enough this season. I'm not saying Pav has when he clearly hasn't, but one great game for Crouch doesn't put him head and shoulders above the rest... no pun intended.

absolutely disagree

The point I would add is that Crouch is also a major asset defensively, particularly at set pieces. He's not only good at it, he's very responsible and always does his job in our box. Against Stoke away, I lost count of the number of clearances he made, including quite a few of Delap's notorious throws.

He did the same again last night.

On set pieces into both boxes, we were able to set out an array of tall, generally mobile men: King, Dawson, Kaboul, Crouch, Huddlestone, Pavlyuchenko, even Bale on one or two occasions. That's why we did so well from our own set pieces. It was a nightmare for City's defence every time we put a free kick or corner into the box (and the deliveries were pretty good, too).

There's more to a tall striker's game than just winning knock-downs and scoring goals.

i hope now he has scored an important winning goal in the climax of our 4th plac conquest, this will be the end of dickheads badmouthing crouch at matches. i always seem to be stood near someone who hates him and the nonsense they spout while he plays quite well in front of their eyes really grates on me

I would also like to stand up and say well done Crouch. I never said I didn't like him as a player but I have been critical of our team when Crouch is playing as they tend to hoof it too much instead of calmly playing it out of the back.

That said I am so happy for him and really goes to show you even if you are the most beautiful looking player out there on the pitch if you bust your ass and give it your all you can really do some great things.

I also want to say I hope he stays for next year and starts the first Champions League game for Spurs. I would also love to see King and Dawson starting as well as they both deserve it with their excellent play.

As we played with 2 wide players last night it wouldn't have made any sense to "hoof" the ball to Crouch. Our system worked better for Crouch himself last night and the team as a whole.

True. It has been said so often this season...it isn't Crouchie's fault what other players 'decide' to do when he is on the pitch. He is genuinely a decent ball player, so I am sure he doesn't want to be used as a target man all the time. His hold up play is very good and sometimes his skill is sublime - hard not to laugh at those 'Bambi' legs faliling around even when he is being ultra skilful but sublime none the less.

1) dont really rate him that highly, didnt when we bought him, still dont today. but ive never said once this season he should be sold, great option to have from the bench

but not a starting striker for me, 2) causes to much long ball footy to be played, and lacks the upper body strength most times, played great last night mind!

1) I do rate him, but I agree, he shouldn't necessarily be a starter but is a great option to have fro the bench, to cover from injuries, or when playing Stoke:grin:;
2) Yes, but see response to rockyhotspur, above - he isn't responsible for the choices other players make (deosn't 'Arry tell them that just 'cos Crouchie is a beanpole it doesn't mean they have to thwack it towards him with maximum prejudice:shrug:

Credit to the man last night. Showed he can use his feet and hold off players. Well done Crouchy!

See response to rockyhotspur, above. He has shon on many occasions that he actually does have good feet...not his fault his teammates prefer to focus on his 'freak' attributes.

This. Especially against Stoke:grin:

Ultimately, would be better if he scored on a more regular basis - it's not just the amount of goals he scores, it is the fact that his barren spells can go into double figures of games without scoring.

i was pleased when we signed crouch and i was so pleased when he was picked last night in front of the recently abysmal pav

it's no exaggeration that playing crouch instead of pav is a key reason we qualified last night instead of being worried about sunday

currently Crouch is our best striker - better than defoe (and capello will confirm that i reckon when the world cup starts) keane (no comment) pav and eidur
