Pele salutes 'excellent' Kane
Pele has joined Harry Kane's growing list of admirers as the Brazilian great says he has been impressed by the "excellent" Tottenham strike

Pele has joined Harry Kane's growing list of admirers as the Brazilian great says he has been impressed by the "excellent" Tottenham striker.

The 21-year-old's Roy of the Rovers rise shows no signs of abating, with the Spurs forward being rewarded for his exceptional form with a first senior international call-up on Thursday.

Kane's 26-goal tally has seen him brought into the England squad for the upcoming matches against Lithuania and Italy, boosting his burgeoning reputation even further.

His performances in the Premier League have caught the eye of many across the world, including arguably the greatest player of all-time.

Pele has been impressed, but warned both club and country against pinning their hopes solely on him or any one player.

"I think he is an excellent player - he could be a good one for the English team," Pele told Press Association Sport.

"What is important is the team work, I think. You cannot win games with individual players. Always it was like that.

"When you have excellent players, sometimes the team doesn't work, you need a good team ethic.

"I am going to give one example - in the Brazil team at the World Cup in England, we had at that time the best players.

"We played the World Cup here but we lost, then in 1970 in Mexico we had an excellent team.

"Our individual players were not the best, but we won the World Cup with the team, not the individual players."

Few are better placed than the three-time World Cup to talk about success, especially when it comes to scoring goals, and the all-time great had some words of wisdom for Kane.

"First of all, he has to take care of his physical condition," Pele said, speaking on behalf of SUBWAY in one of their London restaurants. "A lot of young players forget to look after themselves.

"I used to say, 'God give me the gift to play football, to do something', but you must always be in good shape.

"That is one thing, and tell him never think he can be the best. Always he has something to learn. That is my advice."

Don't get me wrong, I am happy for the lad and seriously happy about his good first season. Always deserved a chance.

But that is the point, it is his first season and all this cock sucking is getting beyond a joke now.

Yeah, after 4-5 consistently good seasons then yeah, bring on the praises, but is what is everything that is wrong with modern football, the media... Shocking really.

It must be surreal for Kane to wake up and read that frickin Pele is a) Giving you praise and b) actually knows who the hell you are :D

What a year he's had so far!

So a player can't get praised until 4-5 years of being consistently good. In that case, we wouldn't have been able to praise Messi when he was already the best player in the world.

I would be amazed if Pele has even seen a single premier game this season let alone watched us, let alone watched Harry.

Nice headline though and great exposure for whatever he was peddling.

There is praising him, then there is the media driven over the top cum fest.

To be fair how long has it been since England have had a genuinely exciting young talent come through and a striker none the less. This country has heritage for a no nonsense striker but we have had a decade long durge of forwards and Rooney over hyping.

Its no great surprise that the Media are up for it. I think from what I have seen of Kane, he seems like he can take all the hype without him losing the plot.

I do think Sturridge is pretty special. Him and Kane could be a shearer/Sherringham. Owen/lineker type partnership.

You have lost me with Owen/Lineker but I agree with the rest. Sturridge/Kane/Welbeck and Rooney should do nicely for the euros and with Ings, Berahino, Austin and Rodriguez in the background we finally look like having decent forwards. Shame about the defence.
