I’m probably old skool like you. I always thought you weren’t allowed to speak to a player until a fee had been agreed. I think it was a gentleman’s agreement between clubs. Same thing regarding transfer requests. If a player put in a request, especially after he received his loyalty bonus, then he wouldn’t play for the club again. Times have changed I guess.

Couple of nuances here lads; what do you think it’s the job of agents to do. A club cannot directly talk to another player, but agents will surely meet and discuss before anything formal progresses. That’s very high level discussions though, like being open to moving to the club.

I get suspicious that it’s all an attempt to save face and there’s no real intent from Levy and co to actually sign the players but rather just to keep the fans off his back because it looked like he tried.
