It actually makes me laugh the amount of love that Robbo gets just because he used to wave to the Park Lane End and the shelf. Maybe Jenas should try a bit of this to get some fanboys on his side?

Even the plain stats show he is gash.

Last seasons shots/saves percentage:
Huerelho Gomes, Tottenham Hotspur - 79% of 99 - 5th in PL
Paul Robinson, Blackburn Rovers - 68% of 141 - 15th in PL

Don't you think Robbo pulled off some superb stops for us, though, DN? When he was confident, he was as good as anyone in the PL at the time. The England howler shot him to bits, and only now is he rediscovering the form he showed for some time with us. And I think Stoof's point about the defending is a valid one; the difference being, we now do some. And give Gomes the kind of bodies on the line protection Robbo got all too infrequently.

I think his reaction saves - ie short range shots fired in - were always good, along with very accurate long kicking (although thank god, we roll the ball out the fullbacks these days), but the rest of his game was always sadly lacking. The England thing exacerbated the situation, but being routed to his goaline, non-existent command of the area, and chronically poor footwork, these things were always there even in his first season when he was at the peak of his form.

Gomes is technically in a different league to him, and if he had a bit more durability and heart he would be easily one of the best in the world.

I was very fond of Robbo when he was at Spurs and would support him if he did come back but I don't think this is a particularly good idea as still not 100% confident in him.

Why is Pletikosa (sp) not getting any chances?

He was Croatia's no.1 and what was the point of bringing him in if he's never going to get a game?

ENGLANDS NUMBER ONE!!!

Come on guys...Robinson was immense for us untill Ramos turned up! He loved us!

So he wasn't turning to the gash side near the end of Jol's rein then?

If we had to replace Gomes, I'd have Given over Robinson anyday. Jaaskeleinen(sp) and Friedel too. Ben Foster? Cudicini? There's better keepers out there.

Given is a very good shout, although doubt Man City would allow it as they fear us.

And so they should...

If Gomes was out long-term Given would be a superb replacement.

Would be interesting to see Robbo with a proper midfield in front of him. As opposed to one that let people waltz through and have a poke from 30 yards.

I love Paul Robinson - and I think he's absolute quality.

England's Fucking Number One. Hope he comes back.
Surely a top GK needs to be able to make good saves even with a shit midfield?

Anyhow, my biggest problem with Robbo was nerves. He was emotionally weak, both for us and England. It caused him to bungle a lot and a downward spiral would ensue. How to we know he is past such things?

This.

I couldn't think how to put across my thoughts on Robbo on my previous post but I'm concerned he's a bit mentally weak and not enough of a winner.

He had the ability, he was very very good when we first got him, but how did he let it all slip so bad?

Yeah I no it was Gary Neville's fault over the Croatia goal as any defender worth their salt knows not to pass back towards goal (although lots of 'em are too thick to realise this) but David Seam for example (boo hiss!) made his share of bloopers in his time (Nayiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiiim!!!!!!!) but he had the mental strength and winning attitude to come back from it.

What Spurs really need (aside from a decent centre forward) is a winning attitude, no more pussy players.

We have the talent, we need the raaaaaargh!

Definately a backword move.

Was good for long spells at the lane, but one fuck up turned him into a nervous nerris.

Don't let his recent form or the fact he is a great bloke blinker you.

He went to shit before that. At the World Cup in Germany he looked terrified at every corner we faced, completely rooted to the line.

If he has his confidence back this is a different issue.

But thats where your wrong, even if his confidence is back, the way he went to pieces before makes him a huge risk to bring back, confidence can go so easily, and robbo, i'm afraid ,has proved to lack the mentality to cope with loss of confidence... i think he would also be better off at a low profile club like the chicken farmers.. where his every error goes unnoticed.

lets move on.

THis is why Defoe needs to go as a well. Dry spells get to him too much and the nerves appear.

If you look at the players that Harry is getting rid of, or trying to, they are all weak minded types:

Bentley
Gio
Pav
Keane

Predominantly he is interested in building a group of players with strong mentalities. Trying to breed a winning culture. Harder said than done though...
