Home Form

1. Manchester United 52 points
2. Chelsea 45 points
3. Manchester City 43 points
4. Arsenal 37 points
5. Tottenham 33 points
6. Liverpool 40 points

Away Form

1. Manchester United 25 points
2. Chelsea 26 points
3. Manchester City 25 points
4. Arsenal 30 points
5. Tottenham 26 points
6. Liverpool 18 points

The amazing thing is that the difference between ourselves and those above is almost every time the precise difference in the points we gained at home. We matched our rivals away from home and yet our home form let us down despite only losing once! Only one team has lost fewer times at home this season! We really could have finished in the top 4 had we put a few more chances away.

I know people hate the 'what if' sentiment because it can be applied to any team but for once I really think this season is one of those if only...

Nice work. Can't really argue with that tbh, couldn't put teams away at home.

Too many draws at home, thats were the damage was done. Yes you could cite Blackpool, West ham, Wigan and Wolves away as dropped points but the reality is away from home is difficult and overall we did well in that respect.

At home though too many draws, with that defeat to Wigan sticking out like a shocker....but that aside:

Everton
Sunderland
West Ham
West Brom
Blackpool

Yes we drew with the likes of United, Chelsea, City and Arsenal at home but the fixtures above were are real undoing.

Thats 10 points dropped at home....right there, 13 points if you count Wigan and thats not counting the big sides at home or the four aforementioned away games were we dropped some points too.

Nevermind Wigan at home, that happens sometimes...but too many draws.

We should be on about 69 points scrapping for thrid with City and Arsenal.

Twenty minutes in to the first half - 0-0 - pressure all Spurs - breakaway from a corner to spurs and they go up front and knock one in to go 1-0 up.

Second Half - pressure is on. Chance after chance goes begging - strikers get swapped - same story - defence resolute. Last minute pressure tells and we equalise. It feels like a win and we've got off the hook.

End of season, the story concludes.

Strikers hang your heads.

Attacking midfielders hang your heads.

C - for effort. D - for reward.

Been thinking for a while that we have had too many drawn games at home.

Problem is that most teams now view getting a point at the Lane as a good result and so set up their teams accordingly and if they nick a goal or two then even better. We need to learn next season how to break down the teams that set up to get a draw and get some strikers in who can finnish and whoose movement makes it more difficult to defend against

BUT if we win our last game at home vs Brum it will mean we are only !pt behind A*****l, so then it will be down to our poor away form.

Lets just agree wedidn't get enough points against the teams in lower reaches of league.

Don't want to criticise this thread or the original poster but I thought that this was blatantly obvious to everyone apart from Harry. Does it really need another thread?

We're 5th - home and away - so the table doesn't lie. What really cost us was a poor run of 1 win 13 games - almost 1/3rd of the the season.

Yeh but everyone has been moaning about our performances against the lesser teams but this thread gives the excuse to also moan at our home form.

Did we concede too many goals or not score enough?

Our weakness up front is quite clear for everyone too see, however defensively we should have done better with any 2 of Huddlestone, Palacios, Sandro and Jenas providing a solid midfield. So given what we have, I believe we should have conceded fewer by playing a more defensive midfield.

Harry's reluctance to play 4-5-1 at home which i assume he perceived to be too negative was the reasons why we didnt win enough games at home. Relying on Pavlyuchenko and Defoe to score us goals was always going to end in failure.

The lack of goals put our defence under greater pressure though. If the strikers score a couple of goals early, the defence comes under less pressure and probably concede less. If we were scoring more, I think you could take 4 or more goals off the goals against column.

The problem is our fans dont get behind the team unless they score early and first

You can hear the crowd moaning on the TV but TBF we have been shit at home and we just sit after we go ahead

Pretty much every team comes to whl and sets up trying to get a draw or defensively, we need to learn to deal with this and break teams down. A lethal striker or two and some creativity on the bench and we are there I reckon

strikers are shit

they stand there with their backs to goal rooted to the spot waiting for someone to pass them the ball then most of the time when they get it they lose it

remember I think it was wet spam at home VDV recieves the ball back to goal just outside the 18 and with a lovely little one touch flick plays Defoe through 1 on 1 dead center and instead of side footing it to either corner or megging the keeper like a real pro he blasts it straight down the middle right at the fecking goalie easy save ball hits the keeper

Pav has missed afew shockers at home too and lets not even get started on that tall bloke with one of the weakest shots I've ever seen who continually lets the ball bounce off his head then smiles as if to say I know I'm shit

we need a couple of strikers who intelligently drag defenders out of position and can create their own chances when were having trouble breaking a team down

I see that as well - many of those draws would've been losses a few seasons ago. So, a missed opportunity for 4th, but resolve in the team should keep Spurs in 5th and a EUROPA spot.

There are some earlier posts here mentioning the good job Harry's done fixing that soft underbelly defense Spurs had, and they're right.
