I must admit that whilst being at WHL on Sunday and hearing Oh when the Spurs goes marching in being sung in unison, whilst drowning out West Ham's anthem, it really did bring a tear to my eye (don't take this piss, as I is well 'ard:wink:)

Seriously though, why have we started singing this great song again? I remember posting on GG that we never had an anthem to sing like Birmingham City's, or even West Ham. Then coincidently, I noticed the fans' started singing the song. I must admit that I cannot remember the song being sung when I had my season ticket in the late 80's and early 90's, and also the handful of games I used to go to each season through the Sugar years. I always associated the song with Southampton, and it seems that since they were relegated, we have adopted the song as our anthem.

So, whose song was it first? Ours or Southampton's?

I assume it was Southampton's cos they're the Saints and obviously the original song is Saints Go Marching In.

We've been singing it like that regularly, with the fingers an' all, since the turn of the century. It was sung before that but never as much as the last few years.

Southampton couldn't have it back even if they wanted it. ****s.

I don't like the slow bit. I seem to be the only one who doesn't though.

The slow bit is what makes the fast bit or-fuckin-gasmic.

By the way, if anyone doesn't know, and there are A LOT, it's 3 slow verses before it gets fast.

THREE SLOW VERSES.

3.

THREE.

In the 80's early 90's I was in the West Upper and then during the Sugar years I only went to a handful of games each season.

I still cannot remember the song being sung, but then again, the West Upper was just lol.

Three? Fucking hell. I get bored/annoyed after one. It's too slow. And no one in the whole stadium seems to be able to sing at all, so it's painful to hear it.

Legend has it that "Oh when the saints go marching in" was the first ever song to be sung at a football match and it was sung by Spurs supporters back in the 50's (I think).

In later years Southampton adopted this song because of their nickname.

Steve Wright's comment right at the end of that song :)

I had to fast forward to the end to hear it. Just 20 secs of that was making me cringe so badly. Man some of the sh*t we called pop music in the 80's was fooking rubbish and that was right up there :oops::oops::oops::oops::oops:
