Can't lie, I don't think this is the option we should have taken. Will give Ange all the support as my issue is not with him as a person. I think this is a massive risk due to the level he has managed at so far, a risk I don't think we should be taking given potential candidates such as JN, Poch, Slot, Enrique, Amorim & De Zerbi. This is not to say all those appointments would have been my choice, but I think they all have more credentials to get the job.

As said I will give Ange my full backing as he does seem a great guy who plays really good football. I just think we needed more than that and that is no fault of Ange himself. I understand fans getting behind Ange due to the vibe he gives off and people thinking we've been lucky in the past not getting our main targets and backups have done well for us. However, the club should be operating on getting is the best possible fit to for the club that matches the experience and credentials needed, Ange meets the brief in one way, we will see if he can translate his ability at a far higher level than ever before. I hope he does.

Best candidate for the job during the interview process... Coincidence he happens to know and be the same nationality as our new CFO and from CAA

IF this gets done, it won’t have been my 1st, 2nd, 3rd or 4th choice but attacking football (potentially too much so), seems to be a good man, players like him & Celtic developed a real connection with him…time to get on board and hope Ange can make us feel good about our club again!

If he doesn't turn up first day of training go into the canteen while the players are eating and say "Call that a knife?" whilst pulling out a fuck off knife from his underoos, then i will be disappoint... :cautious:

I'll be happy with my Sky Bet winnings though ;)

This thread is basically: “look I’ll support the guy, even though he’s useless, has never managed anything but a pub team and is an absolute dogshit 12th option.”

Great support lads!

If it’s Postecoglou then I hope we give him time if it doesn’t all go sweetly the first few months. It took Poch a while to figure out which players were holding us back before gradually getting rid. Poch’s first year wasn’t particularly good football, he needed time and the right kind of players.

It’ll be a nice change to watch positive football again. And also it kind of feels like if Postecoglou doesn’t get what he wants, he’ll have no problems punching Levy in the face.

Ten Hag was 52 when United hired him and had never managed outside the Netherlands, bar a stint at Bayern’s reserves. Pretty sure appointing him would’ve been received positively. And Arteta had absolutely no managerial experience before Arsenal gave him the gig.

Ange has spent 27 years building his career. There have been no shortcuts and there has been no silver spoon. This isn’t someone coasting off Celtic’s successful history - it’s someone who’s worked exceptionally hard to get to where he is. Why is it considered fine that Xabi Alonso, a tremendous player, can be linked with us after six months of management, but a guy who’s built his career out of very little is seen as unqualified? How is that fair?

I think he’s exactly what we need.

People saying that Kane won't be happy, but surely Aussie rules has kickers?
This could be a stepping stone to the NFL...

Surely there's a Tam Brady that has a mullet and kicks for the NSW Drongos?:sneaky:

Despite what the ITK and journos have been saying, it does seem like there was actually a plan and process followed throughout the last few months.

1. Identified main targets (Ange, Slot, Nagelsmann, Amorim, Enrique)
2. Sounded out their level of interest (JN disqualified because he wanted to wait and see what came about, probably said no)
3. Determined Slot was the guy, knocked back JN interest in the press.
4. Slot's compensation was too high, decided we didn't want to move forward (he also realized that we didn't want him enough to cause a scene)
5. Moved to Ange as next option, but knew we had to wait until after the treble was secured
6. Hire Ange within the week after Celtic's season ends

Not to bash any ITKs here about not having a plan but this seems exactly how a good business would operate at hiring level
Great post mate I see I this way also and like I said at the start of the process if we end up with one of the top 5 choices of which Big Ange and L.Enrique could’ve been on that list then happy days as those 2, JN, Slot and Amorim all in different ways very suitable and credible candidates.

The worry would be if we didn’t end up with one of those 5 as then we start getting to not such suitable level of candidates but as you say from the outside it does seem like we’ve followed a process this time so hopefully we get a good outcome in the end and positive things can come from there 😊

There was clearly a process of sorts. All the names short listed fitted a particular profile. Whether we got our first, second, third or fourth choice is irrelevant imo. If a candidate makes it onto a shortlist it means they fit the criteria for the job.
💯!! This is why I said ‘Poch’ wasn’t luck, he was identified as a key candidate as part of a process and was in the end hired.

We’ve seemingly looked at JN, Slot, Amorim, Big Ange and L.Enrique all modern forward thinking coaches and all fairly positive good fit personalities so whoever of the 5 it ends up being as you say they all fit the criteria for the job and we get the best most suitable one we can all things considered.

While I have the greatest level of gratitude for the way Kane has done his job over the last few years, I’m sick of reading posts about whether or not he’ll be happy with the appointment.

Not a personal dig at you btw - I just don’t give a flying fuck if he’s happy or not. I care that he does his job.

The badge on the front of the shirt will always be bigger than the name on the back. Always.
Yeah - Kane apparently loved the Jose/Conte appointments and we know how those worked out, plus it's not like he loved either of them enough to sign a new contract so fat difference it made pleasing him.

It doesn't matter what the players think of Ange's appointment if/when he's appointed - what matters is if he can win them over on the training ground and in the dressing room. As long as he can do that then nothing else matters, really.

Great support lads!

Have supported us through the Gerry Francis and Christian Gross years, this is just a return to the mean. Would not be surprised at all with a bottom half finish next year.
