It’s almost 40 years since a team other than Rangers or Celtic won the Scottish league. One of the most predictable leagues in the world. Celtic have won 8 of last 9. He’s hardly taken over a sinking ship. That’s my worry.
To transform a club in a division with only 2 top clubs isn’t bloody magic

I can picture it now, Celtic have just beaten the mighty Inverness to win the cup. The players and staff are parading the trophy around Hampden Park, a wall of sound coming from the fans chanting Ange's name. Harry Kewell looks at Ange and says "How can you leave now?" The simple reply "I can't"

Postecoglu's team Goals scored stands at 114 - we have to go back to 1916 for most goals scored in a league season by a scottish team (Celtic with 116)

So, its for no reason that Celtic fans are quite unhappy.

The Concerns are very much understandable (I doubt him myself in taking the step up)...But lets see. May be his 25 yrs of coaching experience can help him do it.

Hope he brings a bilge pump to Tottenham

I find it quite amusing how so many have talked themselves into this being a win.
Appreciate all the info you pass on, but there is nothing wrong with having a bit of hope is there? Otherwise what is the point? You just live in misery, doom and gloom. Which it seems like many here do.

Ange could be a miserable failure, or he could surprise people. There is no reason to be open minded and have hope for the latter.

People know my thoughts on the Scottish League but when things like this are said it has to be countered with the fact that the league is the least competitive it has been in a long time. Southampton would be challenging for the title up there.

I just cant get excited by the appointment, we literally have nothing to go by, its a high risk gamble. Better to remain pessimistic rather than get your hopes up, we know how this dance goes.

He was on a lot of initial lists. I don’t know that I’d consider it a win (JN was the clear win) but I don’t think it’s a loss. Probably a 4-4 draw that feels like a loss bc we screwed it late.

I've completely fallen for the idea of an Ange and Mason dreamteam.

I was already watching loads of YouTube videos and reading nerdy twitter threads but I listened to the fighting cock last night and Mark Nesbit sold me on Ange being better than even Nagelsmann

I really hope it comes off this week. Would love to feel a bit of positivity.
He will need someone to give him the lowdown on what’s been going on in that dressing room for the last couple of years because sorting it right out and getting a serious culture going again is priority number one.

I'm not miserable about it, and I hope he does well IF he gets appointed(still not 100% decided and we are still querying others).

I'm still annoyed this is what it's come to after nearly 70 days without a manager, and 6 months knowing this was coming and no amount of optimism is going to change that.

Yes, perfectly good point and a very valid concern that’s widely shared.

Im not arguing against it, but neither am I ruling out any possibility that he may be a good manager just because he’s only succeeded in a minor league.

I want to feel optimistic and to enjoy my football again.

There appears to be little prospect of getting someone like JN ( We ought to be able to, but the reasons for why we appear not to be are another discussion) so if we get Ange, I hope we (supporters and club) get right behind him and give him every opportunity to succeed.

I don't want him failing just to prove some of us right, and I hope no one does, though I suspect a few might do!

The move might work out. Fundamentally though you are correct this is the board stumbling in the dark looking for a cheapest option rather than having a plan

I think one thing not many on here (some, but not a lot) are really taking into account is the fact that for the first time in forever we aren’t in Europe (thank GOD).

As such, we will need a manager who will be the type to attach himself- barnacle-like- to the players and the club. A manager who wants to take a “Championship side into the Premeirship” so to speak, because tbh taking our shit squad into the upper echelons of the League might even be HARDER than getting a Championship side promoted.

Could you see that being a Julian Nagelsmann or a Luis Enrique? Could you honestly picture one of them becoming a “Spurs-guy” through-and-through?

Because with Jose, Conte, etc.- you ALWAYS knew that as soon as they got here they were making plans to leave; as such, why would it be any different with those two “upper-echelon”-gaffers?. So IOW despite whatever “genius” they might bring to us, the “carriage would be turning into a pumpkin” imminently- it would always simply be a matter of time.

I get the feeling that Big Ange, otoh, would be our Jol: i.e., not perfect, not pedigreed and certainly not as “polished” as your Peps and your Klopps, but fuck me we are an 8th-place squad with (minus Harry Kane)- talent-wise- a 15th place squad(!)- so what we need NOW is STABILITY- which Postecoglu offers in spades.

Being a child of divorce I can tell you that it’s not the flashy, handsome, larger-than-life boyfriend- the one who drives a Porsche and who’s fun to be around but that you know is gonna be gonzo in a few months time that you want dating your mum; it’s the guy who works hard, is a good person, is cool, fair and down-to-earth with you, is respectful to everyone and who genuinely LOVES your mum that is the person you want around.

The “wild-ride”-types might seem alluring at first but they end up leaving a mess in their wake.

Sorry, but there’s something to be said for a guy that genuinely wants to be here for the long haul, and who won’t bolt when things get tough. Big Ange strikes me as that guy- a man who rather than just popping in for a quickie can genuinely become part of the furniture. Maybe I’m wrong- maybe he’s a more-attacking Nuno- but I feel like we ought to give him a chance to see what he can do. He’s done the hard yards and has earned the shot to take over a club that- let’s be real here- is in absolute disarray.

When I said you I didn't mean you specifically.

There are plenty on here who won't give Ange a minute or a second to prove himself. I'm not going to apologise for being a little hopeful and I don't think anyone else should either. I refuse to live in negativity 24/7 when it comes to my club (I do it enough in my personal life as is).

We're allowed to be hopeful and optimistic regardless of manager. If it fails, then so be it. But I'd rather enjoy the ride until the wheels come off.

At the start of the process, so as soon as Conte was sacked, would we be eager for AP? Na, not even close, file this under another fuck up and keep fingers crossed we've lucked into a good fit.
