I think people are just sick of the constant negativity if I’m being quite honest. Speaking for myself, I’m sick of people being criticised and belittled for having a little hope too.I find it quite amusing how so many have talked themselves into this being a win.
I'm not sure it's necessarily because it's the cheapest option as that would be Mason. I can see some plus points with him but it's still been a shit show and he was certainly not the best option from the candidates we've spoken to and dismissed. The move might work out. Fundamentally though you are correct this is the board stumbling in the dark looking for a cheapest option rather than having a plan
I actually wouldn't have minded it, good communicator and man manager the spurs fans general reaction is pretty much the same as the average Celtic fan when he was announced for them. He seems a perfect contrast to what we have had and not worked with JM and AC I'm optimistic if it turns out he joins. At the start of the process, so as soon as Conte was sacked, would we be eager for AP? Na, not even close, file this under another fuck up and keep fingers crossed we've lucked into a good fit.
There isn't, but there is something wrong with the board getting away with this yet again.I think people are just sick of the constant negativity if I’m being quite honest. Speaking for myself, I’m sick of people being criticised and belittled for having a little hope too.
There’s any number of people I’d rather we were appointing than this guy. But it is what it is. There’s nothing wrong with people trying to see the positives in the situation.
Who’s list?I wonder how far Postecoglou was down our list.
100 percent needs to be the song for him. Imagine the whole crowd singing that. Goosebumps alreadyIt is indeed. Here are the original lyrics:
Once an Aussie legend
Came to manage Tottenham
Straight out of Glasgow to N17
And he stood on the touchline,
As the Spurs went marching on
Ange Postecoglu is Tottenham’s Aussie.
Ange Postecoglu, Ange Postecoglu
Ange Postecoglu is Tottenham’s Aussie
And he stands on the touchline,
As the Spurs go marching on
Ange Postecoglu is Tottenham’s Aussie.
One man's negativity another man's realism.Yeah apologies. Let's just stick to this thread being an endless cycle of negative posts from the same people.
I think that's the worst thing about all this.this is all about levy and how he wants the club to be run.
It’s not really simply about who is the most capable manager, which it ought to be.
he was certainly not the best option from the candidates we've spoken to and dismissed.
I think one thing not many on here (some, but not a lot) are really taking into account is the fact that for the first time in forever we aren’t in Europe (thank GOD).
As such, we will need a manager who will be the type to attach himself- barnacle-like- to the players and the club. A manager who wants to take a “Championship side into the Premeirship” so to speak, because tbh taking our shit squad into the upper echelons of the League might even be HARDER than getting a Championship side promoted.
Could you see that being a Julian Nagelsmann or a Luis Enrique? Could you honestly picture one of them becoming a “Spurs-guy” through-and-through?
Because with Jose, Conte, etc.- you ALWAYS knew that as soon as they got here they were making plans to leave; as such, why would it be any different with those two “upper-echelon”-gaffers?. So IOW despite whatever “genius” they might bring to us, the “carriage would be turning into a pumpkin” imminently- it would always simply be a matter of time.
I get the feeling that Big Ange, otoh, would be our Jol: i.e., not perfect, not pedigreed and certainly not as “polished” as your Peps and your Klopps, but fuck me we are an 8th-place squad with (minus Harry Kane)- talent-wise- a 15th place squad(!)- so what we need NOW is STABILITY- which Postecoglu offers in spades.
Being a child of divorce I can tell you that it’s not the flashy, handsome, larger-than-life boyfriend- the one who drives a Porsche and who’s fun to be around but that you know is gonna be gonzo in a few months time that you want dating your mum; it’s the guy who works hard, is a good person, is cool, fair and down-to-earth with you, is respectful to everyone and who genuinely LOVES your mum that is the person you want around.
The “wild-ride”-types might seem alluring at first but they end up leaving a mess in their wake.
Sorry, but there’s something to be said for a guy that genuinely wants to be here for the long haul, and who won’t bolt when things get tough. Big Ange strikes me as that guy- a man who rather than just popping in for a quickie can genuinely become part of the furniture. Maybe I’m wrong- maybe he’s a more-attacking Nuno- but I feel like we ought to give him a chance to see what he can do. He’s done the hard yards and has earned the shot to take over a club that- let’s be real here- is in absolute ducking disarray.
That depends on why they've been dismissed.Wether one is most suitable option is pretty much impossible to evaluate before talks anyway
Is it talking themselves into a win or is it coming to the realization that this is happening and then trying to understand what he could bring to the club and getting behind that?I find it quite amusing how so many have talked themselves into this being a win.
and i said maybe he breaks the mould but thats my concern. I covered your pointWhy does it even matter if there hasn't been anyone from that league at the top level for a while? It's like saying who from South Korea has really done anything special in the league before Son came along. Ange could be the best thing since Sir Alex to come out of there for all we know. He's a risk for sure but I don't think the history of managers from the Scottish league will have anything to do with it. He'll either be cut out for it or not.
Which I will do and always have done. That doesn't happen on here though, and this is where I can be critical and honest without it affecting the team one iota.Is it talking themselves into a win or is it coming to the realization that this is happening and then trying to understand what he could bring to the club and getting behind that?
We all want someone to come in and perform miracles and turn us into an immediate challenger. A bigger name with better track record would certainly raise the spirits of the club and the fan base but there is no guarantee that any of them could transfer that record to our squad. We’ve seen that it doesn’t translate because the coaches expectations don’t match what we can do.
I’d see this move as a reset. I’m not imagining Ange (or anyone else) to come in and work miracles. The videos of him talking or of the mic’d training session have been hyped and ridiculed in equal measures here but I see the positives in them. This club needs an arm around the shoulder, a clear thinker that can get things moving in the right direction and I do believe Ange can bring that.
The training stuff, mocked as coaching for U11’s, looks like working on basics and building a philosophy. It’s not a complicated message but having watched our team barely move off the ball for 3 years and move the ball slower than any other team in the league it feels like these basics need to be worked on even at prem level. I don’t think the level of football matters in this case at all. People surely don’t expect Premier League players to be taking on extremely complicated information. It still comes down to similar philosophies at every level but with differing levels of execution. We definitely need to establish those philosophies because we are lost right now.
That’s not me convincing myself this is a win, that’s just trying to find glimmers of hope after a terrible year and a comical leadership group still running things. Would rather look at the positives and get behind the team.
Because it shows a large period of time in which football has changed massivley since its happened. Im working on the assumption time is linear, presumtious i know. I could be a flat circle and Alex Ferguson is currently manager of Aberdeen but for the sake of it being a football website, 30 years is a long timeits also selective saying 30 years ! why 30 years. cos it omits the most succesful manager in premier league history who managed in Scotland before !
Thing about realism is we’re all just shitting in the dark here and hoping not to step in it. Nobody but nobody thought Harry Redknapp would get us to a CL QF when he was appointed. One man's negativity another man's realism.
