One thing I think some people tend to get wrong is our stature.

Yes, we are a big club BUT we are still having to punch above our weight to win titles (cups not so much). So when people say that we should have an elite coach, it hasn't worked out.

Why?

Well, because those coaches have earnt a position that affords them more resources and they have less patience because they want to win instantly. So if they don't get what they need they start to get irritated.

Coaches like Jose and Conte look at their peers and already believe to be better than them. They don't take losing against them very well and thus try to 'speed up' the process.

That can't happen at a club like Tottenham. Although, we should absolutely be doing better.

Tottenham are 6th highest in the player's salary table. I expect Newcastle to surpass us soon.

That's why we always suit upcoming ambitious coaches who want to go and prove themselves against the best but with a bit of time on their side.

There's no entitlement there from them, so they won't start kicking off about not having resources. They dig deeper to find them and if they lose they take a lesson instead of getting bitter or irritated.

The issue for Levy and co is to realise who has that mentality and who is actually 'a chancer'.

Nuno and AVB were chancers, in this respect. Someone who only had one real way of working and didn't have the mentality to fall back on. ABVB got whiny and went into a mood, whilst Nuno was too one-dimensional with his personality.

Ange doesn't appear to be a chancer and seems like someone who would relish the fight, not going into a sulk or become defeated.

I felt the same about Slot.

Does this now mean we’ll see less of these folks around telling us about Celta fucking Vigo or the Melbourne Cockwombats?

As much as there are obvious reservations. I can't help but like the bloke and how he comes across. Sensible and focussed with that wry Aussie humour. I can get on board with that. If you couple in the style of footy and as previously pointed out, he's shown some tactical awareness according to the team he has. (Can't remember who posted it). Then it might just work.

The key would be getting the players, for once, to buy into it. Promotion of academy.

My only concern is the CB position, but that would be the case for any coach incoming.

He strikes me as the type who won't suffer fools so that works too.

But, he's not signed yet. Could still fail to materialise.
The biggest transformation we can make for our centre back problem is to start putting pressure on teams high up the pitch and defending on the from foot, instead of inviting pressure (and mistakes) onto our back line. That will be what he coaches from minute one. So hopefully will be a big change for the better immediately in that regard.

Let's be honest. If Postecoglou wasn't Australian, and he was Dutch, Italian or English, even managing Celtic, with his record up there we would snap him up.... forget the J League. Do you think Arse fans wanted Arsene Wenger when he came from Grampus Eight...? well they did after one season

I didn't think it would be big Ange, especially after his speech on the pitch after collecting the title last weekend. But it all points that way..

All I want is for Levy to step back from footballing side of Spurs... Something he just can't do. Personally I wish he would pack his bags and do one.. But that ain't happening

As long as Postecoglou brings us attractive football, that will be a bonus to me.

I hope this fiasco of appointing someone ends soon... we seem to be a laughing stock of the media, as always

Well can't be Conte level bad? Managing Juvetus, Chelsea, Inter and Spurs without winning a single CL knockout game for a decade. Mind you, he had to draw Celtic while managing Juve to get that win. Did you hold that against appointing Conte?

No because he had won multiple league titles in competitive leagues. I'm looking at a managers pedigree agains the best opposition. Conte posted amazing numbers in this league so looking at his European record wasn't needed.

Disagree with the Aussie thing, I love Aussies and I like the guy, I just dont think his CV is good enough.

Anyway I’ve posted more in this thread the past two days than I have on the site in 6 months, even I’m getting bored of myself.

Lets hope whatever happens we have a good season 🍻

I've got a horrible feeling that IF he gets the gig, the cockjousting will carry on through multiple threads right up until and for a while after he gets the spanish archer.

I cant be bothered with it, its boring enough already. But it just goes to show how much the appointment would split the fanbase.

I don’t get why we’ve set up the data recruitment route and then going for a guy who wants to do the recruitment himself. It makes no sense unless he’s going to buy into that.

I agree with you though. I find it a disappointing appointment.
Ange P has the final say on who comes into Celtic, but he doesn't identify everyone who comes.
He recommended Asian players to the recruitment staff that he was convinced could improve the team quickly & the club backed him.
Joe Hart, CCV, Matt O'Reily etc.. were players identified by the recruitment team for positions required. Ange P tells the club what position & type of player he wants, the club put a list together of achievable targets.
Ange P has final say because he rates personality & character as important as talent. The group is always more important than 1 singular player.
He has publicly said he had doubts over Joe Hart before meeting him. He assumed he was looking to wind down his career with 1 last pay day. JH drive & personality convinced Ange P that he'd add hugely to the group.
If we do get Ange P, then it will only work if the bullshit of club signings stops. He doesn't pull his punches, if the club sign a player he doesn't think has the right personality, no matter how gifted, they won't even get time on the training pitch.

I personally could give a monkey's what nationality he is....... I just read other people's posts saying the Aussie thing, and J League etc etc..

We tried the Jose/Conte approach.. didn't work. I will give anyone a chance... It might only be a brief one...

The fanbase will soon unite if we start to see the shoots of something promising, and positive results follow.

I just hope we don’t have a terrible start as it could get pretty toxic, rather quickly.

If it’s Postecoglou I’ll get behind him, I just think there are better candidates we’re seemingly inexplicably overlooking.
