I understand all the arguments both ways on someone like Ange. Truth is it could go either way, and we wont know until it does. Interestingly the 6 prem managers who have been nominated for manger of the year are:

Mikel Arteta
Roberto De Zerbi
Unai Emery
Pep Guardiola
Eddie Howe
Marco Silva
.

I dont think anyone would have been happy with any of these managers being appointed 1 year ago (with exception of Pep- and the obvious doesnt need to be mentioned) But they have all done well. What does it tell you, fuck knows, apart from maybe noone really does know.
I think the one thing the club can get right is setting up the parameters / framework and cementing the identity going forward (although not holding my breath on that)
All of those managers have been supported by their board and given players they needed to make their philosophies work

It doesn’t really matter what manager we hire because we have to adhere to Daniel levy’s philosophy. It’s why conte failed, it’s why mourinho failed and it’s why there has been something like 70 trophies at other clubs by people who have failed under levy

this club will not win anything working on Daniel levy’s philosophy

until he stops holding this club hostage and let’s someone else run the football side completely without any meddling at all, no one will triumph under him

that’s why so many managers have turned the job down.

Sorry but this prejudice excuse is such bullshit. Fans on social media may be but there is plenty of examples of managers all around the world getting opportunities in the top European leagues. I think people sre getting a bit too defensive just for doubting Ange at this point.

I'm not saying he doesn't stand a chance. He could do well and I get the sense he could be the next Redknapp. Not sure why saying there's a concern is so controversial? I mean it's just a concern because it's taken so long without managing at the top level.
The concerning thing for me is how long it's taken and who we've overlooked during that process. I hope he does well but at the same time I'm disappointed not that I'm surprised.

That said if he's well known to Munn at least he may have someone on his side fighting his corner.

At least if it is Ange and this goes tits up the “get out of our club” singing towards levy will continue next season. The foul git will have chosen a path where if it gets worse it’ll get even worse for him.
But it will also mean we are probably heading for a relegation fight, because make no mistake , we were a Harry Kane away from that this season

How many times have we been here before?

new manager in, hopeful they can do something, and everyone knows they probably could if given the ability to bring players of their choice on.

which never happens.

no matter what way it’s spun, it ain’t ever happened before.
We got lucky with Kane.

given the actual state of the squad, this will end up another change mid season and the same boat again as far too many players need moving on now.

hope I’m proved wrong though and I’ll support whoever is in the job.

Overthinking it. Postman = Postecoglou.
Yeh I’m in over thinking mode, and an optimistic one at that!

German for Nails - Nagels
German for Man - Mann
Sounds like Mailman or could it be Nailsman? ITS BLOODY NAGELSMANN!

No one try to take these straws I’m clutching, they are mine and I’ll clutch all I want!!!

Just saw this Celtic fan comment from another forum linked to by Windy, and worth a read...

Hello Spurs fans
I’m a Celtic fan and I’ve read this thread, mainly to see if any of you were ITK about Ange but a few comments need to be addressed.

A lot of you seem to be referencing Gerrard as a measure of success in Scotland. Gerrard won a single title and no cups in three seasons. It was 1 trophy out of 9 he competed for. He wasn’t a success, he was hyped up by his friends in the media because he’s Steven Gerrard. Ange won more than him in ten months. He’s currently on 4 trophies out of 5 with a cup final this weekend to make it 5 out of 6.

“Rangers have a bloke in charge that must have won a competition or something” is another comment that has stood out. After Gerrard left, Rangers appointed GVB who had won the league at Feyenoord… Isn’t that the same pedigree as the guy Slot you all wanted last week? He then took Rangers to a Europa league final 11 months ago.
This season we’ve won the league against a Rangers team that had over 90 points. A total that would have won the title 9 times out of 10. We did it by scoring a record number of goals. We beat them in a semi final and a cup final. As I said, they were in a Europa final… not a bad team you know, beating Dortmund, RB etc.

Rodger’s was a good manager who was up against incredibly poor competition. A Rangers side that had just returned to the league and had people like Mark Warburton I charge and Scottish players with no pedigree. His trebles do not compare to the one Ange is on the verge of winning and frankly his football was extremely boring for the most part and he had the personality and charisma of a dish cloth.

When Ange joined us we were also underwhelmed, our forums had splits down the middle too and we started the season really poorly going out of the CL to some Danish team and losing quite a few of our opening games but when it clicked, it clicked and I’ve watched some of the most exciting, dynamic and expansive football I’ve ever seen us play. The guy has a good ethos on how the game should be played which is quick, front foot, attacking football. It’s all about winning and winning playing the football he likes. He has no time for defensive, turgid approaches to games. We went into a game against Real Madrid with one pivot in the 6, two 8s, two wingers and inverted full backs. He has no fear and we love that. We play single pivot against everyone and we press really high up the pitch, 100 miles from the off with a lot of great rotations on each wing. We take quick free kicks, corners and throw ins. You can find a lot good examples of that play from these games:

I can understand your reservations although some of it does come across as slightly entitled but you’re a club that seems a bit lost, there’s no connection between fans, manager and players. You’ve had a lot of big time hires that haven’t worked out. This guy is probably exactly what you should be looking for. He really unites the team and the fans together, he’s a passionate guy with incredible presence. Our players will run through walls for him but they are also shit scared of him. He has no time for egomaniacs or primadonnas. He’ll weed them out fast.
Lastly, this man is a mentality monster. You are criticising his lack of pedigree. Wake up, do you know how difficult it is for a guy who’s managing in Australia to get noticed? There’s a bias towards managers from Europe or in Europe. The Morocco manager referenced it during the World Cup.
Ange has had no help, no leg up ala Gerrard, Lampard etc. He started off with Australia U17s and now he could become the first Australian to manage in the EPL. He rocked up at Celtic with not one member of staff. He backs himself like you wouldn’t believe and people follow this guy, he gets everyone on board. As for Levy, Ange is in charge of everything at Celtic. He does all the signings, he rejigged all the youth set up so now they all play the same tactics as the first team. He oversees the full project. We don’t have a DOF.

Absolutely desperate for him to stay at Celtic but I know the nature of the beast. We worship him like a God. I’ve never known a manager to be so in sync with the fans. We know Ange though and he’ll be very keen on being the first Aussie to manage in the EPL given everything he’s had to overcome to get here.

Didn't bring his own staff. Levy will like that.

It was very tongue in cheek but most of SC salivated over the decisions of recent seasons. Most wanted Poch gone, most wanted Jose and Conte, most didnt want Howe.

I just find it quite amusing the amount of Captain Hindsight that happens in all football fandom.
People are knee jerk and I'm with you on the 'getting the right fit' element. To be fair though, I'm not convinced that DL has learned much from the last debacle.

Nah I listened to him the other day saying he'd written a 4000 word piece on Slot only for it to go to shit just before publication.

It looks very much like it will be AP now though.
Such an underwhelming appointment if he gets the job. Like you said above much better candidates have been overlooked.

Club preparing the ground through the press here perhaps?

Also - the headline is driving me mad:

Ange Postecoglou can achieve Tottenham U-turn if Daniel Levy follows his three key words

I read the whole bloody article, and have no idea what were Daniel's "three key words"!

I just cannot watch us play any more miseryball, so if it's to be a bloke who absolutely refuses to play shit football as part of his ethos, then I'm in.
