“Herd mentality” has never been more evident than this new wave of Mason love, sweeping this thread.

What has he done (albeit in his short stint/and or stints) to make him now a realistic shout (and welcomed) for manager?
The main reasons I keep coming across is that he speaks well and he's one of our own.

I'm actually shocked at how low our expectations have got as fans.

I'll be honest I don't think this is Nagelsmann turning us down, more that Levy doesn't see it as workable. He won't have the structural demands with say Slot or Mason that he had from JN.
I've long suspected this is the real reason Slot is in the picture. It isnt because we've identified something in his 4 years experience as a a manager, its because he will be grateful for the PL opportunity and the tools he is given.

Yes and I bet 5 days before that 6 days 90% of our support wants Jose gone. I did!
As for ticket prices I have paid same since we have been stadium, have they raised it no. Is it expensive that’s perspective
Excuse, excuse, excuse.

Thing is you could well be right on most of the points you've argued over time, but it's been excuse after excuse for the best part of 23 years from a certain section on here (A&C calls the bsodl). I accept that there will be good reasons behind some of the things Levy and Enic are accused of. The problem for me is that even if there are legitimate reasons for ALL of the bad decisions, there are that many now it's sort of irrelevant. It's been disaster after disaster for so long with the same people responsible that's it's plain and simple incompetence however you look at it.

People may get angry when I say this but no one is trying to gaslight you. You may be getting too involved in this process whilst being completely outside it.

You're not supposed to trust announcements by the club or by journalists or information from itk.

We don't know whether Nagelsmann is a major jerk, whether Bayern Munich are being unreasonable about his contract. We don't know if we are actually considering mason, or whether Mason is actually the most impressive candidate behind the scenes. We don't know whether they made their mind up re. Slot months ago and are saying nothing about it.

The more you start to believe all the things you hear the unhappier you'll become. Hell, its wise to reserve your judgement even after we appoint someone. We might appoint nagelsmann and he flops and we might appoint brendon Rogers and he's great. This has happened before - more than once.

If we form too strong an opinion based on rumour and appearence we'll lose objectivity for what is actually happening.
Wish I could winner this a thousand times.

To be fair if you have supported us for the same time as me then you will know 1 trophy in 22 years dates to 2001 which was 10 years after our last trophy. So forgetting ownership we have 2 trophies in 32 years.
We won the league cup in 99

Not too bothered about Nagelsmann. I could see that going sour quite quickly.

Having read a lot about Slot and his tactics I think he'd be a good fit for the players we have. A Slot/Mason combo would be a good dynamic and bring a good enthusiasm and feel-good factor back to the club.
Would he be a good fit tho? We are very much set up for a 3 at the back not a 4. Really the only two of our back line that would suit his system is Romero and Royal. Considering his teams are often quite exposed at the back I’d be very concerned by the likes of Porro, Udogie and Dier playing any part. PEH also would not suit his pass and move system and we would probably need two new dedicated AM’s.

I get that Slot plays entertaining attacking football but the team we have is very much currently geared towards a different formation imo, it’s why Nagelsmann would have made by far the most sense.

So the direction could be a DOF he wasn't keen to work with or something?

I'd rather he pulled out now than take the job and it blows up in everyone's faces down the line.
Could be.........more likely "there will be no money to spend and you have to bring Winks back into the team".

But that's a debate for another thread.....

On that logic, Levy might as well give Mason the job.

Until the fans turn ugly on Levy, things will continue as they always have.

Remarkable that so many people still haven't had this moment of clarity yet lol

The journalists that broke this are the same journalists that were reporting he was our top target or at least was very high on our list for weeks. So were they just making it all up before but now they aren't?
Is not the difference here that the statement yesterday came from the club and was then reported by the press where as previously they just made it up? Or have I got it wrong? I would be interested in your opinion.

People genuinely making a case for Mason makes me feel like I’ve woken up in a parallel universe.

Maybe if he’d even been an assistant manager anywhere, I could see a bit more in his favour but as it is, the only plus point seems to be he loves the club and Harry Kane would favour him. (If Harry favours him then he should sign a 4 year contract to support that confidence).

Mason doesn’t even seem to have taken charge of a youth team (other than a one-off u19 champions league campaign which obviously was a very small number of games). Stewart Lewis in the 18s has more experience of “managing” than Mason and they won something!

Because it’s obvious that this would make no impact on Levy - just like it’s had no impact on the Liverpool, Everton or Man Utd owners (the fact they are not selling outright to Radcliffe proves this even more). An owner will only sell if he gets the number he wants as per Mike Ashley.

No club statement. Just a strongly worded, well placed and timed press leak.

It will be interesting to see how Ali Gold plays this one out on his next Pod cast tbh.........

seeing as the clearly don’t have anyone lined up and it’s not about waiting till the end of the season but they just haven’t managed to obtain their targets, why delay the DOF appointment? Find who you like best, get them in now

I do think there is a huge percentage of ' making it up ' to fill the information vacuum. It's a bit like the click bait weather stories - heatwave in UK or snow bomb coming in 2 weeks. It all sounds very convincing but it is just a lot of guesswork based on what lots of people are probably thinking until eventually it either becomes a ' we told you first 3 weeks ago ' or it is just forgotten as if it was never said.

I realistically think Slot, Enrique, Amorim, Ange, (due to Munn), Alonso or Mason are the options now.

Don’t see Amorim happening if £20m buyout clause is true though.

Slot wants the job and I think it’ll be him.

Will come as a league winner, not expensive, attacking football and won’t be demanding.

I think we will get back to targeting young players again.
If we were even thinking of spending £20 mill on compo then we'd be stupid not to go for de zerbi.

How do you work that out? Have we improved on the footballing side from the shit mid table side we were in the 90s?
It's baffling isn't it? Such a weak argument.

In the 90s our top points tally was 62. Since 08/09 we have only gotten less points than that once. In a league that is probably 2x as challenging as in the 90s due to the financial doping.

Oh and that 62 point season was from 42 games!

The "footballing side" is night and day different from the 90s.

We need to make an appointment that gets players and fans excited. Someone who could last a run of bad results and still keep everyone’s backing. It is why we need someone like Poch or Nagelsmann. Mason would get slaughtered as soon as we hit a bad patch, which we will as we can all see we need a rebuild.
